Not As Great As We Hoped It Would Be by CallahanClan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Explorer of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The use of "washy washy, good for your tummy" to disburse Purell lotion to diners was both condescending to travelers and racial stereotyping at it's worst for the poor Asian woman who was forced to say it over and over at every meal, every day of the cruise. We hated going to the Windjammer to eat. The dining room service wasn't great either. We arrived on time, but waited 30 minutes for our order to be taken while the staff waited for others at our table to arrive, which most of them didn't bother. The 8 pm seating was nearly empty. It was over an hour before we got our food. Everything shut down during port visits on the ship, except bars and food. We were hoping to visit the shops when it was less crowded. Nope. Weather forced everyone inside the first day due to cold and wind and it was crowded everywhere. Not much better other days. Barely went over 68. Thick fog the whole first night led to hearing the fog horn blare every 5 to 7 minutes from the ship in warning to other vessels. We were in the front of the ship, so it was very loud, all night long. By the 4th day, the bathroom smelled so bad of sewer smell, we could hardly stand to use it. The ship was showing it's age with rust, ratty carpets and smell, but was clean as possible for it's age. We grew tired of the trivia games and kareoke very quickly. Finally, get the beverage package at least, but recommend the food package as well, as the outlining restaurants had the best food and service. First time on Royal C. and sadly, we weren't impressed.

Not quite up to RCL standards by RAG1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Explorer of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Dinning room service seems to have been cut back. Appeared to have been short handed. (Looks like a corporate decision.) Service did improve as the cruise went on. Apparently there are limits on heating and cooling cabin set points which I do not consider reasonable when on vacation. (Again, looks like a corporate decision.) Lowest cooling limit was 71.5. Wanted lower for sleeping in interior room.

Rough voyage but good reunion with friends by ggjlc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We chose this cruise because we were having a reunion of 7 women who grew up together in Zimbabwe, Africa and are now scattered across Canada and US. Since some were from So. Cal and Phoenix and two from Vancouver area it served us well to do a one-way from L.A. to Vancouver and each only had to fly one way. Weather was bad with gale force winds so ship was rocky and little activity around the pools and decks which made the inside areas seem more crowded. Fortunately we brought cards and lots of memories and stories to share so we were able to make our own entertainment but had a hard time finding appropriate places to sit together that weren't crowded & noisy. On day 2 we discovered that we could take a back table in a restaurant in between meals to visit and play cards without disturbing others or being disturbed. Our one day at port was in Victoria, BC and we rented a van to visit the Butchart Gardens and had a lovely day there with beautiful weather and exquisite gardens. The cruise met our particular purposes and needs but it would have been disappointing if I was on a family vacation with different expectations.

Coastal cruise by christyallison

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was an okay cruise. The food wasn’t amazing, the ship was nice. I went to celebrate turning 40. I don’t think I will go on another Princess cruise until I’m 70. They are a nice line, don’t get me wrong. I feel like they cater to the very older crowd. The live music was even older music. I love to dance, but I couldn’t because the music being played. If you are young, don’t cruise on this line. If you have kids, turn away now, I’m so glad I didn’t bring my kids on this trip... they would have been sooo bored. There were 2 staff that were more than rude, I never said anything to anyone, because I knew I wouldn’t have to see them for the duration of our trip. Hope this helps you decide!

It could b better by Iszamom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: North America

This is my second time on princess and the food was just okay. Not sure if I would sail w them again. Lobster was over cooked and salty. My husband had a late dinner in buffet one evening and said the food was a tad better there than the MDR. We enjoyed the ports on this cruise and had fun but need to think about coming back w princess because of the food quality.

Some decent ports but cool weather. by bobfromselby

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: North America

If the weather had been better the ship would have been better. Lots of things about it were good but there was no wow factor. The staff, especially Willi the room steward were all very helpful.

Nice relaxing getaway by JCSJCML

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

A very brief three day getaway cruise. Third time on the Ruby and I still think the staff is great despite lots of new faces this time around. Look for Maria who works in Club Fusion and Adagio, a sweetheart from Ukraine.

Short, laid back, repositioning trip by RetiredRay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This trip was in a Suite, chosen because being a repositioning trip and only three nights it was cheap (plus it gave us the 2 cruises we needed for Elite). That caveat given, the cruise was a laid back one and we did not do many of the things we thought of doing. Weather was overcast and cold with a moderate sea so we had some movement, especially in the back. For comparison, our Suite had a jerky type of and larger roll/pitch compared to the Thermal suite which had a gentle soothing roll and light pitch. The suite motion was not bad, just not as nice and I did slept well. Club Class dining is the way to go if you can afford it, especially for breakfast. Entertainment was sparse, but then again we expected that on this trip. As noted before, this ship is getting old, I hope they do some fixing up before our next trip on her next March. Due to the weather, more people stayed inside which loaded up various things like the Thermal Suite. Would I do it again? Maybe, but I want a longer trip to get in the groove so maybe as a back to back (Jones Act ruined that this time). Liked Fuch, good music. Phil Tag was an interesting comedian, Acoustic Rush Duo was mixed (which is good for everyone) violin/guitar music that we enjoyed several times. Did not do much, just was too lazy.

Do Not Book Cabin 1088 by aloha2469

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Suffice to say the Westerdam cruise was a great experience. I am writing this to hopefully advise you not to book cabin 1088 or any other cabin in the vicinity. Here are two reasons why: (1) The stabilizers are under this cabin and are used constantly while cruising and you will feel the vibrations and very loud noise as they are employed an deployed through out the night. (2) The kitchen is somewhere directly above and you will hear large carts being moved back and forth during the cruise. FORWARNED.....you will not get any sleep....

Itinerary selections provided by is site do not include the correct cruise dates. Other wise, ship wait staff and cabin staff were as always excellent. Customer service representatives at front desk need to be more experinced with handling issues. by FlorenceChiane

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We had to spend hours of our vacation time to resolve an issue. Customer Service at front desk unwilling to assist with resolving our issue. several attempts to speak with a supervisor were fruitful. Finally engaged with the Manager on last day of the cruise who was very sympathetic and offered compensation. I do not fell that I came back New at all.

This cruise was cancelled due to mechanical issues. It was dry docked Newcastle during this time. Royal Caribbean has refunded all monies paid and also given cruisers a Credit Voucher for another cruise equal to that originally paid. Thanks Royal Caribbea by ShirleyNuss
