Best itinerary - OK Boat by grunmi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Excellent cruise to the west coast.  The ports were all excellent.  San Francisco was both beautiful and fun.  Nice options in both the city and excursions.  Astoria, Oregon was beautiful, simple and relaxing.  Victoria was an even better port with beauty, nature, and a great city.  Superb whale watching.  Vancouver is as beautiful as it gets.  The boat was so-so: food was sub-par (except for the crab pot); the ride was rocky (not terrible) although the weather and seas were reasonably calm, the activities were great (wine tasting was great), and the ship facilities were nice, including the room.

Surprisingly good servce, but mediocre food by jeremymills88

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This cruise was my wife and I's honeymoon and it was the perfect choice. It was the perfect balance of available entertainment and adventure with plenty of relaxation. It was definitely a perk to have room service included in the price of the tickets, so you don't have to pay again each time you use it while on the ship.

Had a wonderful time! by HICruiser77

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

The majority of the service staff are very, very helpful.  Interestingly, the front desk staff were not as friendly or helpful.  We enjoyed all of the onboard entertainment and the food was very good.

I ordered the unlimited soft drink and mocktail package for my boyfriend and he thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would definitely recommend this cruise to anyone who enjoys cruising, but not the stress of having to make arrangements to go out of country.

Rough Sea by sfidco

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Overall the expectations were met...the ship seams a little dated and the creaking was a little loud along with a few leaks hear and there causing a little angst for first time cruisers. Two foot waves in the pool didn't help the situation. It would have been nice to have been warned of the rough seas. Otherwise the staff was great for the most part only one or two missed the mark.

Crews and food server were courteous and nice except one server  from the fine dining that was a bit rude but over all it was another good experience.

People in the shore excursions are also great, had a very smooth tours.

Worse cruise ever by SFBigMike

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

I had prearranged certain requirements, and was promised that I could get a pitcher of water for the medications I take in the morning and evening.  They told me that it wouldn't be a problem, however once on the ship no one was able to assist me, not the cabin steward, or room service, or even the manager at the front desk.  I could not believe the lack of customer service for a cheap picture of water so I could take my medications.   Our cabin was lovely but the furnishing were outdated, the sofa bed looked like it was 20 years old.  The cabin steward was nice, but I never found any towel arrangement's and I was in a mini-suite.

Lastly, and worst of all the cruise ship appears to put my luggage out where people can walk away with it, and I've been on 10 cruises in the past and never experienced a problem, but this time someone apparently walked off with my main suitcase.  The ship had 2 formal nights on a week-long cruise, I actually hate dressing up when on vacation, but I did nevertheless.  I had my formal accessories, dress shoes, ties, belts cover-buns plus specialty items that I like to wear like nautical themed pieces, all lost with my luggage, some items can't be replaced, but the cruise ship will only pay out a maximum of $250 for lost luggage.  That barely pays for the suitcase, my dress shoes alone are worth that amount.  This was my worse cruise experience ever, and may have me rethinking if I will ever go on another one.   I used to rave and promote cruising to my friends, however I don't think I'll be doing any promoting of my last cruise experience, even-though it was based out of San Francisco and it required no plane ride for me.

They have a few more days to find my lost luggage, but I kind of doubt that it will ever be found, UGH!   Crying

Many activities, something for everyone aboard. by danisaacman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Zaandam / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

There were plenty of things to do aboard ship. We understand that the cancellation of the Victoria port of call was beyond anyone's control. The crew members we came in contact with were all outstanding.

Relaxing cruise, excellent service, great views by Travelsoften

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Zaandam / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We enjoyed our cruise. The weather was rough which added to the adventure for us.  We were disappointed thath the ship did not stop in Victoria due to the weather,  but we still enjoyed the trip greatly.   My wife and I used several of the educational classes/presentations and enjoyed them.

Had a great time overall. by RPolicastro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

The best and most memorable aspects of this cruise was the production shows at night and the excellent shore excursions in San Francisco (to Sausalito and Muir Woods via the Golden Gate), Santa Barbara (to see Montecito), and the trolley tour of the city in San Diego. Each guide on these tours were dedicated to their jobs and very informative and lighthearted. The cruise director Dan Appleby made the ship cruise activities fun and kept us laughing (don't miss the Liars Club evening show). His cruise staff, however, were quite unenthusiastic and showed little if any excitement about their jobs. The rock and roll music trivia games (50s and 60s mainly) was quite enjoyable. Bingo was boring due to the bland cruise staff.

Overall, we found the service to be courteous and gracious.

The items that could have been better was the food in the Horizon Court and somewhat in the dining room. There is too much repetition of the same foods and

no choices for those passengers with heart healthy concerns. The desserts were the best and amazingly good. The pizzeria had excellent pizza but I found out about it a little too late. The ship is 10 years old and shows some wear in the staterooms mainly but overall, the ship was very clean and kept up well.

To summarize, we had a very good time and would take the Crown Princess again in the future.

nice and comfortable of the self excursions by taklee602

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We are happy of this cruise trip basically to have a free vacation wherever what we want in the ship without any arrangement and schedule set and followed daily. We also freely made decision whatever we like to do for the excursions. Luckily, there were beautiful and sunny cool weather at all the excursions except two days rainy windy and high waves that made us dizzy and uncomfortable during the trip from Santa Barbara to San Francisco. We hope the food could more improved although it was not bad. Anyway it was a not too bad and wonderful experience at this vacation!

Cruise was relaxing and fun! by yungmanliu

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We enjoyed our cruise.  The overall service was good.  The quality of the food needs improvement.  The price was quite reasonable.  Having the cruise leaving San Francisco and returning back to San Francisco was a big plus for us because we live in the bay area.  This makes it very convenient for us.

Convenient and realxing by tafuller

First time we sailed from our "home port" of San Francisco. Not flights involved! Sailing to and fro the Golden Gate is pretty special. The stops along the way are ok for a Californian, had been to them all - but the leisurely way the boat traveled was nice.

Quantity, not Quality by JD3rd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Lots to do and see on the cruise. Great excursion to Buchard Garden. Good shows on board the ship. Food at the Horizon court buffet was just so so. Bland tasting food and not a lot of meat choices. Ordered room service for breakfast one morning and the food never came, so we went to the buffet. So the service was not what I expected. Anytime Dining option resulted in some long waits.

Star Princess LA to Vancouver by jblum

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Trip was great. Only thing is Princess should update the Star Princess with more outlets for Tech gear that everyone now has. Also the Internet is outrageously priced, why not free Wi-Fi like most hotels?

Room service ,a disaster, anytime dining , the worst I ever have on a crurise ship by phhu171

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We have also booked a balcony for my daughter and her two sons.  One night at 8:pm the sofa bed of my daughter's room was still not set, so I called room service.  The guy showed up and complained that he had many other rooms to serve.  In my twenty some years of travel, this was the worst I ever experienced.

Anytime dining is a joke.  The ship has three small dining rooms. Every evening the seats were all taken by 5:15 pm and then you have to wait for one to two hours.  Reservation is allowed at 8 am.  By the time we called each morning, the earliest reservation  is 7:30 pm.  It seems that Princess has decided the best way to make money is to squeeze as many passengers as possible and let them eat buffet, which is just ordinary.

Relaxing Cruise by Sen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was the second time we have cruised on Princess.  Service was excellent except in the Horizon Court buffet where service was almost non-existent. Room was very nice and bed very comfortable. Room steward was friendly, cleaned our room promptly and gave us exceptional service.  Quality of food in dining room was much better than at the buffet . Entertainment was enjoyable and they showed first-run movies each day.  Did not take excursions since easy to get around by ourselves and see all we wanted to see at each port.  All in all a very relaxing and enjoyable cruise.

Was good really can't complain.... by NBConsumer

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

I really liked the cruise, loved my cabin but unfortunately did not like the food in the buffet area called Horizon. The food in the sit down dining halls was pretty good! Wish they had the formal night during both Sea Days but the last formal was during one of the off-shore excursions day.

anytime dinner choice was a mess by billnorwood66

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Our party of four selected "anytime dining" as a our choice. We believed it would would provide us more flexibility. It resulted in reservations for only late sittings and or long lines with up to an hour wait.  Many others were surprised by this debacle.

The other aspects of the trip were enjoyable.

Note:  we did not receive our $50 on-board credit automatically as stated in our initial paperwork.  We were told to follow-up with Cruise.com after returning home.  Can you tell me how I can claim this $50 credit.  The other couple in our party were told they would receive their $25 check in the mail.

California Coastal by Cruiser598

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Great ports to visit on the California Coastal cruise.  Have gone on it twice and would go again but at a different time of year.  Thought "spring break" was over but had 700 plus (20% )of passengers that were children.
