An older ship that doesn't deliver like their newer ones by mstuewe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Transpacific

The entertainment was the best we have ever seen.  This was our 19th cruise, 6th on Celebrity. We always book Acqa class, not a fan of the large dining rooms.  The staff was very good, across the board.  We enjoyed the specialty restauraunts, although the Tuscan Grill was not up to the standards on other Celebrity ships.  You could not get a good cup of coffee except at Bacio,s.

The shio is definitely showing it's age.  We didn't have an exterior handle on ou sliding door. Part of our balcony needed painting, etc.

we enjoy Celebrity and have two future cruises booked.  We just won't o an older ship again.

Ice skating show always a favorite.  The duplicate bridge games on sea days---great director and group.  Great Aussie crowd---fun people----much more fun people than on cruises out of America.Happy

Stateroom 3017 - BEWARE!! by brianr222

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Explorer of the Seas / Destination: Transpacific

Stateroom 3017 (interior room) is located below a cleaning station, which meant we were subjected to very loud noise at any time of the day or night.  DO NOT BOOK THIS STATEROOM (or a stateroom around this area on Deck 3) IF VERY LOUD NOISE WILL BOTHER YOU AT NIGHT, even ear plugs cannot totally block out the noise.

RCCL know this is a noisy area, did not advise us when we booked, which we believe is very poor customer service.  Had we been made aware, we could have made a better informed booking decision.

We reported our issue on Day 3, but were only taken seriously on Day 12 after having put our concerns in writing on the mid-cruise survey.  Guest services told us they would speak to staff regarding the noise problem, and also offered to move us.  We declined to be moved at that time, as the stateroom is in a favourable location, and we mistakenly believed the noise would cease during the night (when we decided to move, no staterooms were available due to others having moved), but the noise continued throughout the entire duration of the 24 day cruise and it severely affected our cruise experience.

Our experience with guest services in dealing with this issue was very very poor (hence our cruise rating), near the end of the cruise the staff member we were dealing with just ignored us.  It is a real shame, as other than the noise, the stateroom was very nice.  It seemed to be a little more spacious than other interior staterooms on upper levels where others in our group were (both the sleeping area & bathroom), and the furnishings were newer.  Our experience with the stateroom noise and guest services was extremely disappointing, this was the first time we had experienced this type of problem on a cruise and was also the first time we had cruised with RCCL.

Things we liked: All ports visited; the majority of friendly crew; dining choices; most of the shows; entertainment crew enthusiasm; outside recreational activities; non-smoking in the entire ship interior for cruise duration.

Things we disliked: Conflicting information from RCCL call centre and reservations prior to cruise; Lack of notification from RCCL re: stateroom position & cost of stateroom; guest services; charged different prices at different bars sometimes; no self-service guest laundry facilities; inability to self-print cruise account record; lack of time on Kona and Honolulu, would have liked the same duration as on Maui.

Based on our experience, not sure if we would cruise with RCCL again. Sad

Cruise review RC by sandykhawaii

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Transpacific

We had never travelled with Royal Caribbean before.  We enjoyed our cruise but think radiance of the seas was very dated and needed a refurb.   We also found it had no self service laundry , over our holiday we spent over $100 Aust on laundry service.  Some entertainment was fabulous and some extremely average !  I think I definitely would recommend p and o but not sure about radiance of the seas

So-So Experience by meyersfamily

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Emerald Princess / Destination: Transpacific

Food not a good as previous cruises, in fact selection a few times was minimal for foods I like.  Too big of a ship for me.  Walking the halls to get to room were obstacle courses with all the little motorized chairs, walkers, etc.  Very poor internet coverage, wasting half my minutes trying to fully connect or reconnect, and VERY slow.

Too much sea time for me.  Loved the ports, though wish there was another day in Tauranga, NZ.  The ship is showing its age.  Tried to have a small group meeting but ship staff were not accommodating to this, in yet the LGBT group was allowed.  With all the empty space it would have been simple to allow, and we didn't even want it posted in the "Patter".

Not a lot of interesting shows or other day classes as compared to prior cruises, many night shows not family suited.  Did enjoy the Ukelele at sea group.  So many showed up the group had to be split due to only 30 ukuleles on ship.

Good Service But Less Quality & More Nickel and Diming by VaCavalier

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Transpacific

First let me say that the ship is in excellent condition: my stateroom (a Concierge Balcony) was impeccably clean and more than adequate and the public areas look great. I initially chose this cruise because of its highly rated, gourmet specialty restaurant, the Olympic, where in the past I enjoyed the best means of any cruise line, better than the Queen's Grill on Cunard or Deluxe Category ships. While disappointed that this venue was changed to Tuscan Grill before I sailed,  I decided not to cancel my booking: in terms of restaurant quality, that was a mistake. Tuscan Grill is far from gourmet, and lacked professional service; After experiencing 3 dinners there, I cancelled my future reservations and dined at the main restaurant, which was adequate, but due to size alone, not my preferred atmosphere. I lunched at their new Sushi on 5 venue, which was quite good but terribly overpriced (a la carte with no set menu option) as well as located off a busy corridor. Qsine is more for show than for food and I found my server and the maitre d'hotel to overplay their roles, bordering on rudeness (I went once & never again). My favorite daytime venue was Cafe al Bacio, for excellent specialty coffees and friendly service.

In booking Celebrity one needs to keep in mind that they do not claim to be more than a Premium Cruise Line, but clearly they are paying more attention to RCCL accountants than the marketing department or their guests. My advice would be to compare their pricing with that for Azamara and if at all possible book the latter as Celebrity has become little more than Royal Caribbean with a better veneer.

This was the longest cruise we have taken. It was easy to get into the rhythm of the ship during sea days. Plenty to do for entertainment. We were sorry to leave!

Outstanding ship and service, HK to Japan outstanding - Best to do it in reverse: Vancouver to HK by ggtirevitegmailcom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Orion

Everything was really wonderful except the sailing from Otaru to Kodiak. We had 8 sea days of which 7 of them did a time zone change that caused an hour loss. If I had to do this again, I would absolutely do it in reverse order (Vancouver to HK).

Worst cruise ever. by Isonlew

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Luminosa

My wife and I have been on a 178 cruises and. And this is a worst cruise ship. I've ever been on both for activities food and customer service. I would not recommend This ship it is an old ship that was bought by carnival. On the 2nd day of the cruise my wife tripped on a bed tile that caused her several injuries we had to leave the ship due to those injuries with. No help from The ship.. Also which is a slap in the face carnival cruise lines charge Full Graduates. on my credit card. I tried told him not to because we had no services.

Educational transpacific cruise by alee6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: Transpacific

Ship was to leave at 5 it was past Midnight before we left. We were told because it was a long cruise with too much to load but surely NCL has had long cruises and are experienced! We could have had more time in Vancouver! We were told embarkation was carried out by BC authorities and not NCL. 3 hour wait not unacceptable!

Trying to make do with less by rclooking

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Transpacific

This was our fourth trip aboard Millennium in the last 3 years including two other repositioning cruises. It is clear they are cutting back on staff compared to previous cruises. Both in the main dining room and the buffet there was a clear lack of staff to the point where the maitre'd was clearing tables in both locations. The quality of the food has also slipped a notch or two. Still decent meals but not of the same quality as in the past.  The ship was kept spotless throughout  the voyage. Our room attendant kept the cabin sparkling and addressed  us by name every time  we saw him which was often.  The bright spot was the entertainment. Had excellent shows in the main theater every night. The rest of the onboard bands were also very good. Overall a very good cruise but not as good as it has been in the recent past. Hope the staffing issue was a temporary thing and not a planned reduction by the front office.

Wonderful trans pacific crossing by ras4436

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Volendam / Destination: Transpacific

It was a wonderful trans pacific crossing, very calm seas & nice weather....BUT

the food was the worst I have had on Holland America. You would think the with the ship leaving from Japan, good food items would be loaded. The only "good" items were the eggs.....wonderful golden yellow yolk color. The rest of the food was just bland, except that somehow they managed to put cilantro into almost everything. Every meal 2 or 3 items had it in it & also coconut milk. The food was just bland, nothing stood out & the deserts were awful, they all tasted like they were made from a package with "just add water".Imagine 16 days with less than desirable food.

Service on board was A+, as usual. Cabin service top notch, ship is easy to get around. The shows at night we hit or miss. The dancers were great, but the singers were off key & out of tune.
