Great cruise for first timers by Meza

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

The South Pacific is a great itinerary for first cruisers. This is our 2nd trip just around the South Pacific and what we found is sometimes the weather isn't great the first time and better the 2nd so don't worry about visiting a place twice. In good weather most places will standout for you. We have now been to Lifou 3 times. Mystery Island twice. If you can afford it, go the Junior Suite you get great benefits, quick on & off the boat at all ports.

Also enjoy a cruise on Celebrity and this time was as equally good. The Cruise Director, Damian, was excellent.

Boose Cruise by chrishodgson

The three days was just for gambling, drinking and you can guess the last, not so much of a holiday vibe, all around a good cruise.

worst experience on board by Tourist101

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Maasdam / Destination: South Pacific

We would like to share our greatest disappointment about cruising with Holland America with Maasdam from New Zealand to San Diego, on the 1st of February, 2018 Our holiday turned out into a disaster due to problems with accommodation on board. We have booked two cabins - a suite and an ocean view cabin. Throughout the whole cruise we had a lot of issues with our suite resulting in our lack of sleep and sickness. As a result our holiday was completely spoiled and the value of money invested absolutely did not match the promised pleasant experience. We had issues with A/C in our suite throughout the whole cruise and the friendly crew after numerous attempts could not solve the problem. Either the A/C did not work and we had to face the heat or it was impossible to turn it down letting the coldest air possible in the suite, so that we had to put on layers of clothes and still got sick. In addition to the numerous sleepless nights, we were exposed to the toxic smell of the paint through A/C during the sea days, which was coming from the frequent repairs on different decks. However, the worst part began when we smelled unexpected toxic carbon monoxide that was penetrating through the A/C for a couple of days. As it turned out a lot of passengers made complaints about that toxic smell, but the problem was again not solved quickly. The staff reacted with the reply that this smell depends on the direction of the wind and it is an ordinary matter. It is crucial to emphasize that carbon monoxide may result in fatal end, especially, when a person is in a deep sleep and breathing it in. In our case, children had been having a headache for three days and the adults for almost four days with the signs of nausea and inability to live a proper life. This experience may lead to health problems in the future. Highly disappointed and with the fear that the toxic smell of carbon monoxide would appear again, we started to discuss the option for disembarkation in Honolulu. Our only request was reimbursement for the rest of the trip. We even did not even ask for compensation for all the sleepless previous nights on cruise. To our greatest surprise, we were declined the refund for the rest of the cruise. The only gesture was an offer of $2000 for our whole company - 6 people! Considering the fact that we have invested in our holiday almost C$50,000 we are completely unsatisfied with the value of money we have spent on this cruise. Yet, the most important part from this cruise experience was the issue with the toxic carbon monoxide. It is absolutely irresponsible from the side of the cruise company that passengers might get exposed to any toxic smells and gases.

First cruise. We loved cruising. Just maybe a smaller ship and less people next time. Abit overwhelmed by the size and where to go. Not a lot of help offered to us.

Had a wonderful time by loveachardy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

A great experience overall for our first cruise. We had two more sea days than anticipated which was a bit disappointing of course as we missed two whole ports. The weather let us down the first5 days, no ones fault and not the end of the world but naturally disappointing. We did the ships tour which we loved. All in all, it was fantastic, the staff, the food, the cabin and the entertainment. The Golden is a beautiful ship.

South Pacific Islands - our first cruise by momo40

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

We had a wonderful time. Probably the most relaxing and stress free holiday we have ever had. Full credit to the staff on the Voyager. This was our first cruise and it definitely won't be our last. Already looking at booking the next one.

First Princess Cruisethis by pjordan78

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Australasia

I’m not sure I will cruise Princess again, but it was a very enjoyable experience and smoothest waters I’ve ever experienced. The area around the ports was quite beautiful on this itinerary. Excursions were pricey. Some evenings entertainment and dining were not spaced well with timing. The ship was very quiet. As stated earlier, embark and debark were excellent.

Way too short!! by Helenemt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Golden Princess / Destination: Australasia

Loved the cruise but it was too short. Many elderly passengers who could be quite rude. Could never get a seat in the atrium as they were there morning to night!! The coffee in the cafe is terrible. They really need to hire Australian baristas as they always burn the beans and the coffee tastes awful. Stick to tea or the hot chocolate.

Good but not Great by dreaMi

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Solstice / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

We thought going on a Celebrity cruise ship would be a step up from Royal Caribbean as they are sister ships... but we were disappointed :-( The decor was impressive and there were many bars to choose from but only after about 5pm. The very large lounge at the top of the boat was very comfortable and a great place to sit and relax... and although there was a bar in the middle it was rarely open.

New Zealand Cruise 2018 by Skg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Sun Princess / Destination: South Pacific - Australia

Overall cruise experience is "Fair". The voyage from/to Sydney to NZ were very rough at Tasman Sea. Many passenger experienced seasick at sea. The Horizon Court Buffet foods were terrible with poor quality and limited food choices served. The waiters at the Buffet were not attentive to customers. They do not offer drinks at the table. But, focus on busing the tables instead. Traditional Dining at dinner was "Fair" with 3 Stars. Dinner menu is okay and the waiters are good at dinner. Our room steward was excellent!. He kept our room clean at all times. The Princess Theater production shows were good. Bravo Production was excellent! The Princess singers and dancers were great too.
