First cruise and hopefully not last. by Larisa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

This cruise was the first we went on, and overall was an amazing cruise. We not only enjoyed the food, but enjoyed the activities that were offered on the cruise. The room service people were friendly and they treated us like family. Some of them even remember your names! This was definitely an outstanding cruise and we would love to go back on a Carnival cruise anytime!

This cruise was excellent! The ship is outstanding and the Dining Staff is fabulous! The cruise attendants are exceptional ! I would definitely return to this cruise ship again! However, I am not very impressed with the excursion offers and the ports of call of Italy itinerary!

Highly Enjoyable by laidback

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Silhouette / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We chose Celebrity because of the recommendation of Cheap Cruises and were not disappointed. The ship and crew were first rate, the ports chosen were great, and the length was just right. Food in the min dining room was so consistently good as to be a surprise. We did eat at one of the specialty restaurants; Murano and it was indeed a cut above. Food presentation was perfect, taste very good and service attentive without being intrusive. Ports of call were all interesting with one exception, Crete. Not much to see or do there. All others, very good. Two small complaints. The spa operates like a hard sell used car lot. Sorry, but the experience was so out of character, I had to mention it. Once our treatments were over let the selling begin. Seaweed baths (take home), future treatments, you name it. Made you feel like you had dropped down 3 or 4 cruise line levels. Same thing in the cafeteria dining area. We bought the unlimited, non-alcoholic upgrade (neither of us drink) because I couldn't see signing every time we wanted a coke light, or espresso. So in the cafeteria (lunch or breakfast) you had to order one at a time, and since waiter service was pretty scarce; go up to the bar every time you wanted something more. Food gets cold (remember the queues in this kind of restaurant) and I become unhappy. I think they achieved their goal; we ordered far less "non-alcoholic, specialty drinks" but I would never buy that option again. makes you feel like the line you've chosen is a cheap one. Those 2 issues only. And fortunately they were so far from the norm as to make me think the line hasn't yet caught up in those 2 departments. Overall, very enjoyable. Would recommend, and we will definitely go again.

Horrible services by epic

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

This is the worst cruise that my family and I have been on. We have been on many cruises but this is the worst. Before booking our vacation, we were going to book our mediterranean with Royal Carribean , but decided to try Norwegian this time. Not all your staffs were that bad, but we experience with multi times with one of your staff name Everlynn Woo for our everning dinner. Our group have 12 people, therefore we have to waited for our table, but by the time that you have our table ready she was rushing us to be seated. While we were waiting my girlfriend decided to have her family photo taken with the photo stand. MS Woo, was rude and very impatience with us. I have never been treated by any staffs with other cruises all those years. By the way my girlfriend family, this is their first cruise and they have the worst terrible experiences. They will never cruise again because your services and food!!!!!

Ship hopelessly out of date by JimV11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We sailed on the Navigator of the Seas, June 2 from Rome. The food was, at best, so so and the shows were mediocre and the facilities were lacking in almost every respect. Along with many other features on the Navigator of the Sea, the internet system is hopelessly out of date. It's obvious that their system has not been updated since the ship was launched. I was very surprised to find that they do not have wireless in the rooms and all over the ship but only 4 or so "hot spots" on the ship. I have not seen this on a ship in at least 10 years. I needed to complete a contract once I got on board using Docusign which under normal circumstances would take perhaps 15 minutes. The internet on the ship was so bad that I spend literally 10+ hours and 3+ days of my vacation trying to use the antiquated system. I would get on their system and would be kicked off after 2 or 3 minutes without even getting onto the web and being charged 75 cents per minute. I would typically repeat this process 4 or 5 times before finally getting to use the EMail for maybe a minute or two before I was kicked off again. The assistant manager of the front desk, Steven, tried to help me and finally let me use the system they use in the back to finally use my software to submit my contract and reimbursing a fair amount of the useless minutes I had been charged for. During the last 3 days when I was trying to use the EMail to find out if my contract had gone through, I spent perhaps $150 on their internet with essentially zero results. I was so disgusted by this point that I did not even try to get reimbursed. We cruise once to twice a year and will never go on Royal Caribbean again. We have been on Princess, Carnival and Holland American. Never have I been so disgusted - my vacation was ruined.

The Epic was one of the best ships I have been on. Rooms (on balcony) were spacious as were the showers. Really liked the design of the rooms. Top notch service.

Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Royal Caribbean Splendour of the Seas by cooper03

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Splendour of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Thiis was our fourth cruise and the third on Royal Caribbean. They have all been good, but this was the best thus far. We acutally sailed on Splendour of the Seas years ago out of Barcelona, and it has since been refurbished. We arrived in Venice two days in advance of the sailing date and spent one day seeing the highlights of this splendid city. We took the alilaguna taxi from Marco Polo airport to our hotel on the Grand Canal and found the vaparetto boats around town efficient and relatively inexpensive, if occasionally crowded during "rush hour". We took the boat again to the cruise terminal on Saturday morning and the jumped on the "people mover" to within a couple of blocks of the ship. We missed the sign for baggage check-in and went straight up the escalator for processing which forced us to go back down after getting our Set Sail passess, but that was a minor inconvenience. We sailed later that evening and awoke to our first port of Dubrovnik. This was the only port at which we didn't book an excursion and just scheduled a bus ride from the ship to the old city. There we walked the wall and explored the town and shopping on our own. It was beautiful and interesting. We had a lunch of fresh seafood, bread and Croatian beer at the old harbour which was excellent. Our next stop was Corfu, Greece. There, we did an excursion to a monastery and the Achilleon Palace. We almost missed the departure, however, because we relied on the time on our cell phones which did not update for the time change. So it is important to ensure one wakes up on time. We had a wonderful tour guide who explained the history, the culture, and the geography of Corfu as well as the locations we visited. it was well worth the cost. The third day took us to Santorini which was our favorite and the most beautiful or our destinations, in our opinion. That was the only port where we "tendered" in to shore. But all went smoothly and it was a fun experience. Once again, we had a great tour guide who joked about the somewhat unnerving bus ride up the side of the mountain to Oia and Fera and, once again was knowledgeable and entertaining about the area and history. We visited the local winery and had ample time for shopping. We found the prices in Santorini to be the best on the entire cruise. Once again we had a lunch of giros and Greek beer, before taking the cable car down to the harbour and back to the ship. The next stop was Athens where we once agaiin did an excrursion since we had not been there before. Of course, a stop at the base of the Acropolis and shopping at the Plaka was a must. There is a relatively new museum which we did not have a chance to visit, but have heard it is exceptional. For a third time, we were lucky to have a great tour guide who filled us in on the local flavor and "herded" us around carefully. The last stop of our cruise was Olympia and the site of the first olympics. We were blessed with our most knowledgeable guide yet who dazzled us with stories of Greek history and mythology. We were lucky to be the first tour group in the Olympic Museum so our group was alone at the time and he was able to spend more time and go into more detail with us. All in all, every stop was spectacularly beautiful and historic and our tour guides enhanced our experience tremendously. As far as Splendour of the Seas itself, we found the usual uncompromised service and attention to detail. We arranged for "My Time Dining" but enjoyed dinner at the same table and time each night because of the fun we had and friendships we made with the others at our table which included folks from New York, Australia, Norway, and the UK. We socialized with our table mates as well because the chemistry was perfect. The venues included karaoke, disco, and the piano bar. We still found time to enjoy a show or two, bask around the pool, and take advantage of some of the spa facilities. The only difficulty I encountered was accessing the internet from my cabin even though we were deck 7 with a balcony. Eventually, I discovered I had better success on the higher decks and especially at the deck 8 internet location. I purchased the basic $35 option and ended up using most of the minutes just to check email. In summary, this was a wonderful cruise, especially for anyone who has not visited this part of the world before, and I highly recommend it.

Wonderful Experience by TravelerRon

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Equinox / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

This was a 12-day Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to ports in France, Italy, Croatia, and Montenegro. A wonderful itinerary (though port intensive). We took a few days pre and post trip to stay in Barcelona and enjoy this thoroughly remarkable city. The Celebrity Equinox is a very comfortable and entertaining ship. Due to the numerous ports of call and our late-dinner seating, we did not get to take advantage of everything the ship had to offer (mostly the entertainment in the theater). However, the entertainment in the lounges, at poolside, and in the main foyer was outstanding. Our balacony cabin was located forward on deck 8 and was quite comfortable. We did enjoy returning from an excursion and relaxing out on the balacony before dinner. Storage was quite adequate. The staff throughout the ship were very friendly and helpful. We did buy the Specialty restaurant 3-package. While we thoroughly enjoyed Muranos and the Tuscan Grill, the Asian Silk Harvest restaurant was a little disappointing. Also, I did not like the fact that when you purchase the 3-dinner package, Celebrity requires you to go to all 3 restaurants. Nevertheless, the overall cruise experience was totally enjoyable. Dubrovnik and Kotor were extra surprise treats that are very unique and interesting. We did all of our excursions privately and were able to add people from the Cruise Critic Roll Call board to make the excursions less expensive. I would give special recognition to Aldo of Aldo's Limos for a great tour of the Amalfi coast. He really puts his heart, soul, and knowledge of the area into his tours (and only 55 euros per person with 8 in his new MB van). Also, if you have been to Rome, think about a tour to Orvieto and one or two other small Umbria towns. From Villafranche, Eze and Monaco are recommended, but also try to make a stop in St. Paul de Vence, a wonderful little town of art galleries and cafes.

Amazing impressions by 19Vale47

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Equinox / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We got a lot of new amazing impressions from different country's attractions. Bad impressions from Dubrovnik: too expensive, peoples are malevolent. KV11 shore excursion is very cute visually, but Islands that we visited for beach and lunch absolutely not ready for acceptance the tourists. Bad sanitation, the meal uneatable and can be the reason of poisoning. The lower level of the guide. NPO4 is very good excursion, but long non stop way to Amalfi (more than 2hr without restroom) is hard test for not young people. One day of the our vacation has been stolen by security of Equinox. We got our baggage only about 7:00 p.m. in despite of we had priority to get it. The reason is the Iron in baggage. First of all, the ticket agreement not put a veto on Iron, Secondly, if it is a really dangerous using iron, the special iron room must be equipped on the ship in order to passenger could prepare their formal dress. Now you enforce passangers to take too expensive iron service.

Fantastic cruise. by letsgoagain

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We did our first cruise a year ago to the Caribbean. We were exceptionally pleased with the cruise on Carnival Valor and with the service we received in booking the cruise with cruise.com. Very simply if it is not broken why try to fix it so we went the same path on this cruise. I could find nothing wrong on our first cruise and can honestly say that the European cruise was even better. We had one problem when our shore excursion in Rome was cancelled at t6he last moment. The girl at on duty at customer service was rude and very unhelpful. (Cruise desk was closed). After complaining in the morning, matter was resolved and apologies (with discount and bottle of champaign). We would certainly use cruise.com for our next booking and preference to Carnival Lines.

Great way to see so many places by auntshell

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The 12 day Mediterranean cruise was a great vacation and a wonderful way to see Europe. It was a very fast pace though so be sure to prepare yourself for a lot of go, go, go! The ship was fun and the food was too good! I've been on five cruises prior to this, three different cruise lines and this ship was by far the best. We had an exceptional time. My only complaint is the cost of the wifi. That was more expensive than I've paid on other cruises.

cruise of your dreams by relaxedcruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

great cruise - loved the staff and the ports. we were a bit tired from all the excursions, but how could one ignore those ports of a lifetime! we had a slight problem with lounge chairs on the days at sea and wish that more could be provided, although i got help from a supervisor when chairs were abandoned more than 45 min. we also had a slight problem - on two occasions - with the air in our cabin. there was an odor similar to paint - and we complained to guest services who claimed nothing was going on. my husband is knowledgable in this field and he thought that there was painting going on near a vent.

Carnival Sunshine by Blf

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We liked our cruise, but not the ship. Here is the negative review. Carnival has a lot of issues on this ship. It was just overhauled but it seemed there was more to enhance the bars than being organized. We had over a 3 hour wait in line to board the ship. At one point their computers went down but we were not informed at first. Other couples in our party had some problems. When leaving the ship two couples did not get their luggage and Carnival will have to send it to them from Spain. Several cabins were flooded from the toilet, and the ship did not have hot water one evening. There was not enough entertainment that is usually found on Carnival. The food was not up to Carnival standards. Compared with RCCL, Carnival needs some work.

A little disappointed with the ships renovation. by taylor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

We were surprised to see the renovaions on the ship were not done yet. For example windows in the dining room were a mess, one area made you queezy because of the windows. The sprinkler heads in our stateroom were covered and would would be ineffective in fire situation. The door glass windows to the balcony were severly scratched and disgusting. Overlooking the stateroom and dining facilities the common areas of the ship were clean and operational. Cruise ports of call very good. We enjoyed visits to Europe very much. Food in main dining area was good to very good and wait service was very good. Seating personnel on initial visits were not very accomodating but improved later after several complaints. Casino operations only fair. Disapponted with shore excursion in Venice. Entertainment in liquid lounge was lacking with the exception of the musical presentations which were excellent with vey talented pros. Perhaps improvements in TV productions and PA/computer systems that failed on several occasion should be considered. The TV in the stateroom never worked correctly which was virtually unwatchable.

Med Cruise-disappointed by pinkstud

Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Reka, our cruise specialist was excellent.. superb... she was always there to communicate with us.. unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy the $250 hotel we reserved in Barcelona due to my husbands illness..we had allowed us 3 days to get to Barcelona..so we were able to get to Barcelona.. but not in time for the hotel stay.. and the main reason of booking this cruise was to visit/meet my husbands remaining family in Florence.. (he was just diagnosed with alzheimers) unfortunately, the ship couldn't dock in Florence due to weather so our chances of meeting them are not likely.. very disappointed..

Experience with Carnival, Sunshine by LINDACHENG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Sunshine / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

Our room was described from Carnival’s as “room for 2 people, has two twin beds and a sofa,” but there was no sofa in the room, but ONE stool, so the siting area is the bed for the 12 days. Also our room is at the rear of the ship, when it is leaving or coming to the port, the whole room shake like earthquake, we are not happy with our room and the cruise staff was not helpful at all when we tell them about the loud noise and smell. The 3rd and 4th floor by the rear stair case near both dinning rooms has a very bad odor, smelled like garbage or waste from the sewer, our room sometime also has some funny smell. Also some of the public restroom has water on the floor and some of the toilet can not flush, it is hard to believe that this ship is newly renovated.
