Our First Cruise......Could it be our Last? by micmc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Orion

The Inside Passage is a nice leisurely cruise and we enjoyed it even though we had lousy weather much of the time. We felt the excursions were a little lacking, especially when the main thrust of many of the excursions was to view scenery and wildlife but the weather or the time of year didn't provide an opportunity for either. We felt maybe we should have been warned that we would not see anything that day due to bad weather and maybe offer the opportunity to change to some other excursion. Life on-board the ship was basically good, with several places to hang out and sip a wine or listen to music. There was a dress code issue that surprised us a little though. One afternoon we were looking for a place to sit and listen to the string duo in the swanky Atrium Lounge and walked by a man sitting at a game table with shorts, flip-flops and no shirt. No staff had accosted him so I suppose his attire may have been OK....just seemed very odd to us. We really can't say enough how much we loved the well-trained staff onboard our ship, and what a nice facility it is overall. But we feel Viking let us down in one major area - Health&Safety. We noticed people coughing everywhere we went on the ship almost from Day-One. And after 3 or 4 days we noticed more and more people coughing. Virtually nobody was wearing a mask and there were no advisories. On the 6th day of our 10-day trip we both came down with covid. We were fully vaccinated and boosted and had made through the entire 3-year pandemic unscathed. Then we decided to take our first cruise......bad idea! We had to cancel our last four excursions, one of which Viking did not refund for some unknown reason, and we had to cancel the last week of our trip after the cruise and fly home early for treatment/recovery. We are not happy that Viking didn't place more emphasis on monitoring the condition of it's passengers and issuing a warning of some sort when it was obvious that so many people were coming down sick and spreading germs throughout the ship. This included some staff members as well. So will it be not only our first cruise but also maybe our last cruise? Not likely. But we will probably have to avoid buffets and maybe check the current mask policies more closely in the future.

Miracle is Old by tdaly

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Miracle

Overall, if you are not necessarily looking to have fun on the ship and just get port to port, then the Miracle is fine. It will get you there. But on this type of northern itinerary where more time is indoors, I would have liked a more updated ship. Would not chose to cruise on Miracle again.

Loved the Aft Wrap Around Suite Balcony by MomSuzCruiser

This is an old ship. It shows its age but is very clean. Loved it for Alaska. Crew was great. They need to make some of the stops a lot longer.

Fantastic Alaska Cruise by Whizzo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Orion

I'm so glad that we went through Delta Travel (agent Mayra Silveira). She caught several issues prior to our departure, and responded quickly when our flight home was canceled. She also was able to book us into a fantastic hotel in Vancouver at a very decent rate when our flight was rescheduled for the next day. And the cruise itself was a delight. The ship's crew were uniformly kind and courteous, and the history and astronomy programs extremely entertaining and enlightening.

Worst cruise in 30 years. No health restrictions enforced, dirty silverware and we both got the virus that was onboard prior to our departure and Princess said nothing. Ports were terrible unless you enjoy Safeway and wallmart in Sidka Alaska by jschweitzer66

This is the worst Princss Cruise I’ve ever been on. The room was never clean and had a sewer smell. Every porch that we visited except one we had to wait hours to catch a tender off the ship. Longest way for tenders ever up to three hours.

Mediocre food, but Stellar Sites and Service by colinrosario

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Miracle

We enjoyed our cruise on Carnival to Alaska. The boat was clean and comfortable and the service staff were stellar. However, the lines/congestion in the buffet and food quality could be improved.

Affordable but long by deserielamp

Onboard excursions are not always the most affordable option you can spend more than planned on board especially long cruises. Lots of food choices so you may gain weight.

Aweigh to Alaska by Morfrost2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Regatta

Overall, this was a very good cruise. We had a lot of fun, were never bored but were able to relax, and didn't want it to end quite so soon. It was our first on Oceania and we will try them again. I will say that one should do their research and know what to expect because this line fills a pretty narrow niche. Don't expect all the activity and partying one gets on bigger ships (our 30-something children missed that a bit) nor the level of service, space, and luxury one gets on much more expensive lines (my wife and I missed that a bit).

Most Enjoyable by beaul1r

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Regatta

This was my first cruise and I very much enjoyed it. I will take another, and likely on the same sized ship, which I thgought was a perfect size. My wife has been on other cruises, but enjoyed this one the most. I would strongly recommend Oceania, and the woman I worked with, Sheila Bennett.

Memorable Alaska Cruise by Anothai

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ruby Princess

Such fun and relaxing experience. Staffs were friendly and helpful, special thanks to Chai,Sarvesh, Phongthep from restaurants. I LOVE the zumba instructors and entertainers, to name a few , Mark, Rafael and Trivia. I’d been overeaten but did not gain a pound. Thanks to big fitness room and many easy to access walking areas that provided on the upper and lower decks.

Beautiful Alaska Cruise by Nettiebeau

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Spirit

We had such a wonderful and relaxing cruise. The scenery and whale watching right from our balcony was pretty special. The waters were a little choppy on sea day, so having motion sickness solutions along was helpful. There were quite a few people getting sick, although we did not. Take your vitamins and get lots of fresh air!!

It was okay... by jessicaburton20

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Miracle

Boring itinerary onboard. The dj music was okay could have been better. The director was not as involved as all past cruises I've been on with Carnival. The stage shows was boring never had encountered that before with my past cruises. Hopefully future cruises and itinerary will be better than this one.

Beautiful Alaska Land and Sea by wintersw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam

Seeing Alaska has been on our bucket list for decades. Thankfully we finally made it happen! Doing a combination Inner Passage and land cruise was the perfect vehicle. Denali National Park was the undeniable highlight and seeing Denali (AKA McKinley) mountain was the cherry on top. The weather was incredible . . . blue skies, moderate temperatures. Don’t miss the husky training demonstration! Our only disappointment was the lack of guidance by HAL during the land portion of our tour. There were some wonderful, well-informed and entertaining coach drivers and many locals who were very accommodating but, after arriving in Alyeska, there was no representative of the cruise line who introduced him/herself or made him/herself available for assistance. We and our fellow travelers felt abandoned. Ideally, there would be one person assigned to each group. Our understanding is that this is the case with other companies but, since this was our first land “cruise”, we cannot attest to that and can only recommend it. Despite this flaw, the trip was awesome. We highly recommend the Riverboat tour in Fairbanks. It wasn’t Disney because it was “real”. Yup!

Alaska cruise on the Reggata by Tinyroom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Regatta

Ship, rooms, entertainment not worth the money. I would not go on this line even for free. The food was very good but the rest not good. The staff tried their best but not up to par compared to equal type of ships. I had to go to the doctor on board. The doctor and staff were very good but the facility was not. Not very clean and a matter of space again. They asked me to give them a urine specimen. I had to go through a sick persons room in order to get to the bathroom.

Overall Excellent by OHaras

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Silver Muse

Would definitely book SS again. Virtually No Kids!!! This is at the top of our list. Ship was super clean with zero fragrance smells Travel: Their travel dept doesn't ask for preferences nor think through connections or timing, so watch that. They will also put you on flights that require you to buy a seat, or put you on flights with short connections. The chauffer service (Blacklane) will also charge you if you are too far out which we get BUT, SS gives you one ride per person each way. Why not offer a couple that lives farther out from the airport an option for 1 longer ride. We had to pay an additional $160 for this service. Standard WiFi,,,, don't waste your time, it barely works sometimes, super aggravating! Had great food at all places. Some "included" wines are not available all day. Something you have at dinner will mysteriously be unavailable at lunch. This happened multiple times so it is certainly systemic.
