Review of our trip to Alaska by passlab

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Our favorite part of the trip was cruising Glacier Bay - the magnificent scenery

throughout the trip.  When I reflect, there were many favorite things.  I enjoyed swimming in the pool.  We enjoyed the food which was excellent.  We enjoyed meeting people from all over the world.  The entertainment was good. We especially enjoyed the classical music.  We enjoyed just resting - watching the ocean and mountains  Captain Bos was excellent - very thoughtful and kept us informed of the schedule, wildlife sites.  The service and crew were pleasant, considerate.  I could go on and on.  We truly enjoyed the trip and look forward to another one some day.  What would I change?  Its hard to think of anything.  Mabe more vegetarian options for food as we normally don't eat meat.

but again, thankyou!

Great time on the ship and saw lots of wildlife.  Cannot believe how many whales we saw.  Glaciers were wonderful and were calving as we were their as well.

Nice ship, nice scenery by KECNYR

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We were looking forward seeing the great Alaskan scenery and I can say, we had a wonderful time. The Captain turned the ship around a few times, so everyone could see the great Glacier. The Coral is a nice ship. Although we had nice weather, only once it rained in Ketchikan, it was too cold to use the outside swimming pool. Luckily, the Coral has an inside pool. I wish every ship  would have one. Nice crew. We had a good room steward. Entertainment was good. I love the dance shows. All went smooth from check in till check out. Food in MDR was good and a good variety. Buffet: I expected more variety. Specialty restaurant: overpriced. We loved to have Iditarod puppies on board in Ketchikan.

50th Anniversy Cruise by papalenc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The lack of information for the land part of our trip was a downer.  RC Cruise planner told us we would have information in our room when we boarded the ship.  There was none.  When checking with the excursion desk all we received a time schedule and told we would receive information when we landed at Seward.  Very little time to plan additional land excursions.

Amazing weather by brownsfour612

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We took the 3 day pre-cruise trip up to Denali and then the 7 day cruise down to Vancouver.  We had absolutely fabulous weather the whole trip except for one day in Ketchikan when it was cloudy - but by then it was good to see what normal Alaskan weather was like!  We had not gone into this cruise with a great deal of enthusiasm, but I would say it was one of the best we've done.  Every port has something interesting and the Millennium was a beautiful ship and the staff was as attentive as all Celebrity ships.  We were Aqua and so ate in Blu - as always a pleasure.  I would highly recommend this trip to everyone, and if possible, take the pre-cruise extension - they do 3, 5 or 7 day extensions.  They are tiring as you have to be up early every morning so best to do it at the beginning of the trip so you can relax more on the ship.

Good but needs improvement by Ginala

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Best part:  Ship is beautiful. Staff is great. Ports are amazing. Check out Dr John's lectures on the ports and don't miss Hubbard a Glacier at 7 am.

Not so good: windjammer food, selection and times needs improving.  If you drink non alcoholic beer, they only seem to carry the horrible ODouls rather than its usual Buckker (which is great). We had to have staff search for it in the back and waited 2 days for it. At least we got it. Would have been bad if we couldn't have gotten it.

worst:  mattresses in stateroom were really hard and not comfortable.  Room service selection and time to get to your room.

Cruise was good, the process was terrible by pmichael630

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I will never use again for a cruise.  Their advertising is misleading on what you actually receive for your purchase.  Beware of the free amenities they advertise when you book a suite!

On the other hand, the cruise itself was wonderful!

Wonderful cruise, beautiful weather by carylene

Great experience, onboard activities could be better, but overall a great experience. Royal has a naturalist on board that talks about the glaciers, the wildlife, and the native tribes of Alaska which made the experience even better.

Radiance of the seas - Alaska by ellenslevine

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

food was awful - steak in the dining room was tough and never cooked to order - always well done even if ordered rare. Lobster was previously frozen and undercooked. Vodka was watered and the "premium" red wine tasted vinegary. Kids were running unattended in elevators and stairways and very raucous in the pool areas.  Never again on RCL.

Alaska by candeeeee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The cruise portion of the trip was wonderful.  However, the land tour was not.

We had a lot of problems with the excursions that were solely the fault of Princess. We were unable to find anyone that would help solve the excursion problem.  The accommodations at the Denali  & Mt McKinley lodge were poor.,    The rooms needs immediate refurbishing.  Beds had old bedspreads & blankets & the carpeting was spotted.  If I had seen the room first I never would have stayed.  Bathroom was clean, but again old.  Sink area very small no  place to put toiletries.

Princess is the right cruise line by hollis2775

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We are not fond of cruising, but we have no complaints about the Island Princess with 2200 passengers.  It was redecorated May 2015 and was very well kept and clean. The food was fantastic- such variety with an abundance of fruit, veggies, meats, fresh breads and desserts to gain 6 pounds on!  The crew of 900 were attentive and friendly.

We were up close to only one glacier, which calved into the sea...Margery Glacier was very beautiful.  We took the train and bus combo through Frontier Tours in Skagway, which we would highly recommend.

EXCELENTE CRUCERO by EMIRO

Como el año anterior, comprobamos que viajar con Norwegian es una gran experiencia. Lo único es que pueden mejorar la oferta en los comedores de las cubiertas superiores, así como en Moderno churrasquería y en el bar deportivo.

Great time on the "Sun" by debbieteusch

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We would recommend this cruise to others.  We experienced great service and never felt crowded with 2000+ passengers on board.  We loved the informal eating choices and eating on the pool deck.

We did feel the cruise was one day too long (because of the two days at sea at the end).  Would suggest another stop or see if from last port to disembarkation time could be shortened.

Would do it again!

Wonderful Alaska cruise and land tour by lenoxlady

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Our Holland America cruise to Alaska was a wonderful experience.  The staff could not have been more attentive. From the Housekeeping staff to the Front Desk to the Dining Room staff, everyone went out of their way to pampered us. The Dining Room Staff made certain to provide us with the seating we requested and the Menu had many options to satisfy every palate.

Alaska is a must see for those who love the beauty of nature. The ports of call were well chosen. Glacier Bay National Park was incredible.

Good food, good service, HAL as usual. by Travelot

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The food was very good and our verandah cabin was more than adequate.  Not often you get a full sized bathtub these days.  The cruise was a typical itinerary and we followed or were followed by a Princess ship and a Crystal ship from port to port. Three days in three small, dreary ports were too much for a seven day cruise.  Entertainment on board was minimal.  For a ship some ten years old, the Noordam is in remarkably good condition and the public areas are quite upscale even today with marble floors, glass and brass.  Very nice lounge areas, gaming area, and quite seating nooks.Happy

Know Before You Go by HappyPassenger

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Zaandam / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Please read Below for all of the POSITIVES.

If this is your first cruise, you will probably enjoy it.   HAL paled in comparison to other cruise lines in food service and food quality.

Although there were many experiences that were good, the poor dining experience, lack of professionalism from one of the front desk personnel and ethnic tensions among staff are the the reasons for the above rating.

Due to discrimination that occured while onboard, I do not intend to use this cruise line again.

Near Perfect! by mflabbee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

What a great itinerary!  Just enough time in ports with a stunning ending at the Glacier Bay National Park.  The crew was absolutely fabulous--nothing was too much trouble.  A wide variety of adult activities (i.e., no hairy chest contests), and some good entertainment.  Fellow passengers were a variety of young and old. There were some children on board, but they were few and well behaved.  The food ranged from very good to wildly outstanding.  Of note was the "Dive In", a hot-dog and hamburger hub by the Lido pool.  I normally limit myself to one hot dog a year, but had 5 on this cruise!  Addictive!  The sticky pecan buns at breakfast are sure to develop a cult following.  My only (and I mean small) complaint was dinner at the Pinnacle Grill.  The food was good, but not great.  A small flaw in an otherwise perfect experience.
