Being spoiled is a great way to cruise by majorp81

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Miracle

Cruising with friends always makes for a more enjoyable trip. This was my first Carnival cruise while the wife has cruised with them before and our friends are LOYAL Diamond members. An enjoyable time at sea and we were well cared for and fed.

Be Wary of Land Pre-Cruise Option and Shore Excursion Options by lindatulloch

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Silver Nova

We paid $3,600/pp for a land pre-cruise option which was largely just being on a bus/train because the state is so vast. We didn't appreciate that when we booked the trip. The activities were not interactive and strung out to pass the time to get back on the bus. The reindeer farm was mostly a 2 hour lecture about how the farm came to be vs interacting with the reindeer. The same holds true for the Husky Homestead. It was mostly a hour long lecture on how to prepare for and successfully complete an Iditarod race which most of us don't plan to do. We were exhausted by the early departure times and long travel days before we even got on the cruise! We hardly saw any wildlife at Denali or on the bus/train. All the animals were too far away. We didn't have any opportunity to schedule a flight seeing excursion at Denali. The available shore excursions did not allow for an immersive experience. We thought Silverseas would have their own separate excursions and that we would have been able to sign up for more immersive, active experiences. They can't have 90% of the better activities sold out when the site opens up. Not all of us want to stay on a bus/train for our excursions.

Excellent cruise for the 2 of us. Ports were great! Would have liked more time in Victoria. Also wished there was no smoking on the ship.

Wonderful Trip by trust277

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Spirit

Had a great time. Very relaxing cruise. Would highly recommend to anyone. Make sure you take advantage of every opportunity to see as much as you can. Some ports have very short times there. Get off the ship as soon as you can. Make friends while on the cruise. Most people on the Alaskan cruise tend to be older and are fun to talk to.

Amazing Alaska Cruise by jlee34

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Miracle

The cruise itself was smooth, stress free, and had a lot of amenities. The staff were the best part. The entertainment could be improved as well as the activities on the ship. Many activities were more of a cash grab which was disappointing. We did enjoy the game shows, they were fun! My daughter loved the teen club but unfortunately there was not much for my 18 year old son. He spent most of the time with me. Although he did like the yellow slide.

Not your average Alaska cruise by sorton

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MS Roald Amundsen

This trip is not for the person who wants to see the normal sights of an Alaska cruise. The entertainment options on this ship are not like what would be found on a much larger ship- no water slides, casinos, theatres. This was a learning experience with well-done science lectures, wildlife watching and reveling in scenery. We spent a great deal of time on the ship, either with sea days or when it was not our turn on the zodiacs. The towns we visited were working communities, not tourist towns. We wondered what first time cruisers and/or first time visitors to Alaska thought of the cruise. We had already spent over 7 weeks in Alaska on 3 other trips from Juneau to Prudhoe Bay, so the exposure to new venues was terrific for us.
