Better than I actually anticipated. I wasn't sure what to expect, honestly. We had walked from Mallory Square to Fort Zachary Taylor Park beach within about 20 minutes. On our way back, we toured around the square and the city area, visiting unique shops and bars.

I want to go back to this port again. We were at a wedding so we didn't get to see much. I would say take the Conch Train. They were our transportation to and from the wedding site they were so much fun.

We did not do an excursion because we weren't there very long. We didn't do our research, so we were very disappointed that there was NO beach to swim in. The beaches are rocky and they smell terrible. According to friends, we should have toured some of the museums, homes, etc., or gone to a small private island beach (Fort?). Next time we will know, but I will probably not schedule this stop on our next trip. Also, the island is OVERRUN in chickens. Apparently they used to have cock fighting on the island, but it was outlawed. They turned the island into a bird sanctuary, and now it is like the Chicken Capital of the World. They are running loose in the streets! This may account for some of the smell. My apologies to the people of Key West, but we didn't enjoy it.

Dropped at the Navy pier which meant we had to be transferred by bus to Old Town, a small inconvenience Once there, we walked around Duval Street and surrounding area. Didn’t make it as far as the Southernmost point or Hemingway House in the time we had, but did make it back to the pier for sunset, which is a must!! My parents began with a trolley tour and if I had to do it again, I would opt for the trolley as a starting point to get an overview of the Key.

It was nice but a huge disappointment when we were prepared to go to Havana, Cuba. I tried to remain positive but Key West, Florida is not Cuba.
