Galveston was embarkation port. We usually go down on the Friday before we leave out. We stay in the Webster Area (just South of Houston and about a 30 minute drive to the port). You can find a hotel for just over $100 per night. The closer you get to Galveston and in Galveston it is about $200 or more per night. We usually do Kemah Boardwalk on Friday night and then spend all day Saturday wondering around Galveston before we head out Sunday. We go to Murdochs (at 23rd and Seawall Blvd). It is a nice shop with an amazing porch to just sit and feel the breeze from the Gulf of Mexico. Lost of history in that store. It gets hit by hurricanes and they keep rebuilding it. Last major hurricane was Ike in 2008. There is also Pleasure Pier (at 25th and Seawall Blvd). Fun time for the family. We have never been but you also have Moody Gardens which I have heard good things about.

Galveston has really cleaned up in the past several years since I was there last. I will definitely go a couple days before sailing and explore the city next time.

We went to Pleasure Pier and had some fun, was kind of weird you had to pay for the rides individually but it was still a fun time

Galveston has always been one of our favorite ports. Not only is it close to my hometown of Houston(which means we get to visit with family before and after the cruise), the terminal itself has always been very smooth to get in and out of.

Galveston is dirty - and all the hotels are severely overpriced- do yourself a favor and stay in or around Houston the night before your cruise - you won’t be missing out on anything except dirty overpriced hotels .

Painless embarkation. We got to the port around 10 and were on the ship at 11:15. We had faster to the fun, which I thought was pretty well worth it. The port is not much to look at unless you are interested in industry and oil rigs, but we seriously saw a bunch of dolphins jumping around and following the ship out to see- that was a pretty amazing way to start the cruise! Debarkation was a bit less smooth but still not a big deal. We normally buy booze and smokes duty free on our cruises but didn’t from this port due to the extra Texas taxes and lines we would have to encounter if we would have. We’ll wait for the next cruise from a different port and not pay Texas extra! ;) Prior to the cruise we stayed at the Hilton and it was great. We got it an night so we couldn’t see much but when we woke up the next day we were treated to an amazing sunrise over the gulf from our balcony. Awesome! Highly recommend staying in a gulf view room before the cruise, plus rooms were super cheap in Texas!!

Galveston was our leaving point and we stayed there the night before we left for the Cruise. It has enough on it's own without being a passthrough for the cruise.
