We bought our tickets to tour the Mansions on our own prior to the trip. We are not crazy about bus and guided tours. Most of the Mansion tours are audio and you go at your own pace. We bought Trolley tickets and did this shore excursion on our own.

Had a tour set up with Trolley Tours (thru Viator), and were unable to use it. Carlos had promised if we had a problem with the timing of the tour, that he would cancel and credit back the cost. He was as good as his word. If we ever go back to Newport, RI, I will book with him again. 1-401-207-6762.

The biggest waste of time and source of frustration was waiting for tenders to take us to Newport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They absolutely have to get a better method of doing this. Wasted almost two hours waiting around to get numbers and then waiting for the numbers to be called to board the tenders. They should issue tickets for certain times the night before or the morning of and then have folks report back during those times or something like that.

Recommend you book your shore excursions on shore and save a bundle. Anything the ship sells can be purchased ashore at a bargain price (by comparison). For $38 each, we got a van tour of the city mansions and hotspots and a self-guided (but excellent, using the digital audio device) tour of the Breakers--aka The Vanderbilt Mansion.
