Review summary

This was our eighth voyage on the QM2 and have never been disappointed. We always feel very special, by the way we are treated, the music in the Chart Room each evening, the fine dining choices and all the staff. We also enjoyed the various receptions to honor the captain and the senior staff.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Now that we are platinum, we enjoyed embarking early. I didn't think the special waiting room was particularly comfortable.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All the bars and dining rooms had very helpful staff and a wide variety of choices.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We attended three of the guest lectures and enjoyed them very much.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the comedian and the motown group.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our waiter in the Britannia dining room was excellent. He was very helpful when we couldn't decide among several savory choices. We visited bars in the Commodore and the Chart Room and they were very friendly and knowledgeable. We also found Jason in the Corinthian especially helpful. Our stateroom steward, Jun was fabulous! The room was always clean and whenever we asked him for something, it appeared very quickly.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The common areas were all clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The bed was comfortable and there was more than enough storage. However, the balcony had several rust spots, the faucet in the bathroom sink dripped and was finally fixed five days into the trip. There was also a strip in the bathroom cabinet that was hanging loose.

Ship tip

Be aware that even smart casual required a sport jacket for men.

Ports of call

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
We've been here before, but enjoyed walking around and shopping. (Especially when I found a sport jacket at a wonderful sale!)

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
Old friends picked us up at the port and drove into Quincy Market for a great lunch. We couldn't find a seat to watch the fireworks from the deck, so we watched them in our stateroom. When we opened our balcony door, we could hear the cannon fire.

Newport, Rhode Island

5 out of 5
We did a mansion excursion, seeing many from the bus and visiting one with a talking phone/guide which we enjoyed very much.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had our own carry on luggage, so from the time we stepped out of our stateroom to the time we were in the pickup area outside was a total of FIFTEEN minutes!!

Thanks for the heads-up re: sports jacket requirement. It will be my first trip on QM2 (S'hampton-NY) and I plan to dress well throughout the journey. Its good to know I won't be too far out of place
