We had booked a walking tour and it was raining; but, we went anyway and got wet. Apparently we are not sugar because we did not melt and had a good time anyway.

I’ve been to Newport before and so did not do any excursions. Walked around town after a short tender ride and had a nice lunch. It’s a very walkable town with plenty to see right off the tender even on your own. Historic Trinity Church and it’s tiny old churchyard right across from tender port are open to the public. Lots of nice shops as well. Would recommend walking part of the cliff walk, although we did not on this trip. Note that it’s not near where the tender port is, nor are the mansions. Unless you have a special interest, I would not do more than one mansion as they can be repetitive. Definitely do a guided tour or at least an audio tour for the best experience.

Let’s start this off by saying Newport is beautiful, the beaches there are amazing, and the “store plaza” was great too! The only negative I have about this place is just how some people there are snobby.

Very cute old town. Instead of taking the excursion of the mansions, we rented bicycles and rode it ourselves. Very nice.

We got the chance to visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame which is a tennis lovers dream and you can visit Newport, RI without seeing one of the mansions be it the Breakers or the Elms, etc. Try to buy your tickets in advance to obtain a discount because they're quite pricey at the mansions.

If not taking an excursion, do you own walking tour around the Church area. There is great history around town, with several historical houses, and museums.
