We spent three days here before our cruise as it saved us money on the flight. Not sure I'd do it again, as it's an expensive city to stay in and what we saved on the flight was more than spent on the hotel and dining in the area. But the public trolley system is great for getting to the beaches and Galleria Mall, and the beaches there were nice; clean, not crowded, and depending on which part of the beach you stopped at there were plenty of places to grab lunch or a drink.

We flew in a day early. We stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port. It offered free pick up from airport to hotel and from hotel to cruise port. It was great. The hotel had a pool, fitness center and hot tube. Each room had a balcony. It was near a train station and a large fishing store. The only downside is there were no food places near by except dominos pizza. They had a small cafe in the lobby that was expensive and lacked options. No free breakfast either.

I was extremely impressed with how close the airport is to the port and how easy it was to catch a cab. It only took ten minutes to get to the ship, the only delay was the security check point getting into the port. The only complaint I had with the check in process was my family got a new person checking us in and he forgot to give us passes since we had our boarding passes on our phones. I would suggest printing the boarding passes as a backup because Royal Caribbean’s mobile check in is not quite there yet.
