Beautiful port well worth arriving a day early so you can see some of the sights. Balboa Park was beautiful and USS Midway very interesting.

Hornblower Cruises has a fantastic whale-watching excursion out of the pier right next to the Midway. Once past Point Loma various types of Pacific whales and dolphins can be easily observed and photographed. Food and drink is available but be advised: small ship + rough water = lost lunch.

Did a private excursion with Another Side of San Diego Tours (Kevin was guide) and he was excellent. Unfortunately many museums at Balboa are closed on Mondays. Also went to Maritime Museum and would recommend it.

Didn't like my harbor and City tour. Would be better to walk around since you dock in town. Now I know for next time. The harbor tour is just telling me about all the many battleships parked there. Not something of interest to me personally.
