We booked an excursion through Gateway Shore Tours Noumea to Escapade Island. Alfred was fantastic and the island was like something from a movie. Fresh seafood buffet lunch included and the some of the best Snorkeling I have ever done.

The port of Noumea was nothing to write home about, as our view from the balcony offered nothing but the commercial and industrial aspect as w3 had the nickel smelter, ships waiting to be docked or loaded and a view of traffic congestion. Whilst on the Portside of the ship they had the container terminal to view. Having boarded our coach for the excursion we set off towards the lookout point to visualise the city skyline and glimpses of the various bays surrounding the city, not a great place as the graffiti and rubbish within this area was a turn off. We all rebounded the coach and headed for the Ouen Torro lookout where two Australian Cannons were left there as relics from WWII. The views from this vantage point were spectacular and breathtaking and totally understand why the cannons were positioned here in case of invasion by the Japanese into Australia during WWII. Our las point of call was the Aquarium that provided a true glimpse of the Coral and Nautical life within the waters surrounding Noumea within their natural habitat. A pleasing excursion with a young guide that provided excellent naration through the excursion.

Amedee Island excursion expensive but worth every penny. Well worth it with the lunch and show included. Beautiful island with great coral and fish. Even the odd sea snake

Noumea is our least liked port. We went into town to buy some supplies but not much has changed. You need to do a tour or the hop-on-hop-off bus to see better things.

Hop on hop off bus works well for $12 aud. Unfortunately, Noumea is old, creaky and run down, lots of graffiti and looks quite grubby through the city, although the beaches are gorgeous. It is our 3rd time and would not go again. However, for first timers, the tchou tchou train and Aquarium are wonderful experiences.
