Review summary

Positives: food, fantastic staff, the entertainments, VOOM worked well, great location on ship (deck 12), well designed cabin, comfy beds Negatives: we never met our attendant other than to wave and smile, ship grubby especially toilets and needs refurbishment in general areas, kids running amuk until all hours

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Excellent, some waiting as to be expected, but kept flowing quite well. We were onboard within the house :)

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was excellent across the board, we had second sitting My Time to allow us to enjoy the 7pm show, and also ate at Windjammer quite a lot as well Johnny Rockets (food was good but wouldn't bother again, kids would love it though. Drinks package worked very well and covered all our drinks inc bottled water/coffees etc. Room service also good for brekkie on lazy days :)

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Mostly good but sometimes wrong venues chosen and we couldn't attend due to inadequate size of venue to numbers. Need more activities in the afternoons on sea days. Do noth bother with the Galley Tour, was disorganised and we missed bits due to other groups and also couldn't hear properly, did not meet the chef as promised. Buffet afterward was good however.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Pretty good choices and misture. Music always to loud though, especially when the ship's orchestra drowns out the performers, and we were sitting up the back of the theatre. Best show was Ricochet, brilliant! We enjoyed Aussie Boys and Beatles show especially. Our friend said the ice show was terrific too!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff work so hard and are always engaging and pleasant even when under pressure, no complaints at all, except they require more cleaning staff.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Voyager in some areas is at a level of disrepair and it is a bit like like they have given up on her. Ladies toilets smelled and buttons did not work (door and flush) and by end of cruise quite a few had out of order signs (mens and ladies). Lift buttons were always filthy across the ship and there appeared to be much less cleaning than we saw on Solstice last year and less staff. No handwash when returning from Noumea !!!! They need to upgrade toilets badly and some of the internal to ouside electric doors are very slow, would hate to be using them as emergency exits! They need more cleaning staff.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Clean, beds very comfortable and great storage, well designed cabins .... BUT there was a camera on our balcony ??!!! Not sure why as we never met our stateroom attendant to ask him, but it did affect our enjoyment of the balcony somewhat. We never had soap in our shower dispenser and had to raid the cleaning trolley for soap and milk during the cruise. Would rather have had less towel animals and attendant who paid attention to small details like that - however these are very small things really. Loved having a kettle in the room and next time I will bring coffee bags :)

Ship tip

Be prepared for LOTS of children (even outside school hols) who are allowed to run around, prank calls, pressing all the lift buttons, knocking on doors and running up and down stairs etc. Children are allowed in adult venues until midnight! This definitely affected our enjoyment of the cruise. No one did anything about the unruly children, both staff and security ignored it all, not sure why. There were also some very polite and well behaved children on board of course, bu tit is the unsupervised ones that are the issue. There was lots for kids to do as well as kids club, so it is the parents who perhaps just left them to their own devices, but this really needs to be addressed somehow. Voyager is old and we would not sail on her again for reasons of the above plus cleanliness and run down toilets.

Ports of call

Sydney, Australia

4 out of 5
No, just did the markets on the Sunday morning and wandered around. Good fun :) Great restaurants near our hotel (Holiday Inn)

Noumea, New Caledonia

2 out of 5
Hop on hop off bus works well for $12 aud. Unfortunately, Noumea is old, creaky and run down, lots of graffiti and looks quite grubby through the city, although the beaches are gorgeous. It is our 3rd time and would not go again. However, for first timers, the tchou tchou train and Aquarium are wonderful experiences.

Mystery Island, Vanuatu

4 out of 5
Beautiful beach port, snorkelling, junk markets, hair braiding and massages across the beach area. Very pretty

Port Vila, Efate, Vanuatu

4 out of 5
Did the ship's reef explorer glass bottom boat tour, terrific and worth the cost. We booked a tour through here but it was cancelled, so we paid extra to do the ship tour ...Vanuatu Markets look great but are just junky once you get there. Our friend did ship's blue lagoon cruise and said it was a bit meh and overpriced for what it was.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We self disembarked - brilliant - we were off the ship and at airport within an hour!

Have been getting conflicting reviews of the food.. Some like it and some really hate it... Did you have more of the MDR, buffet or sociality restaurants?
