Raiatea was beautiful. We would like to go back for a couple of days. We did a snorkel tour to Taha'a Coral Gardens. It was a drift snorkel. Having to go in a line with inexperienced snorkelers was a disaster. Many people ended up being forced into the coral and were scrapped up.

Our original tour reserved privately was cancelled due to boat issues which turned into a blessing as we booked a last minute tour on Viator with ARE Tours which turned out to be a great day visiting all the favorites around Taha’a (vanilla, pearls, rum, snorkel, beach BBQ with sharks) with a very entertaining group of tour guides.

This was the only port with a warft other than Papeete. That means the market and the art shops are with in walking distance and should be visited. Try to go beyond the shops at the dack, they are better stocked and priced.

Another lush tropical island with interesting vanilla and black pearl plantations. Interestingly, the plantations are all pretty much family run operations and don't feel like large agro-businesses even though the Society Islands supply 80% of the world's vanilla. The water and air temperatures throughout all of French Polynesia is perfect, at least when we were there. Water about 82 degrees and air 88 degrees. Only need to bring one pair of long pants for formal dining in the evenings.
