Cabin type: Suite

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

We were on the old R4, now known as the Tahitian Princess. We had sailed on the R8 in the Baltic and this ship was the same. The size of the ship made meeting and remembering people very easy. But the food was much better and in the Princess tradition. The Captain was very personable and spent a lot of time with the passengers. These two voyages were his first as a Captain and if they are any indication of his potential he will go far.

Ports of call

Raiatea, French Polynesia

5 out of 5
This was the only port with a warft other than Papeete. That means the market and the art shops are with in walking distance and should be visited. Try to go beyond the shops at the dack, they are better stocked and priced.
Don't Miss: The local dancing and parue folding demo on the ship.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

5 out of 5
Had dinner at Bloody Mary's. We should have just sat the bar. Seeing the gun impacments at the top of the volcanos was very impressive, even though no Japanese invader came close. It reminded me of the Admiral who said to the Ensign, "See that gun?, put it on top of that mountain."
Don't Miss: The Helmet Dive is a don't miss. The best thing we did.

Huahine, French Polynesia

3 out of 5
We went snorkling on both visits. The crew was great and seemed to have a lot of fun with us foreigners.
Don't Miss: There is not much here so it is hard to miss anything.

Moorea, French Polynesia

5 out of 5
We spent 4 days at the Sheraton before the cruise. Loved the island and would go back in a minute. Crepes at the bar on the over the water area are great. Best value in the whole resort.
Don't Miss: Le Hon Iti restaurant across from Moorea Black Pearl.

Papeete, Tahiti

5 out of 5
You must take the around the island tour, especially if you can get Douglas as the tour guide.
Don't Miss: The city market. Don't skip the second floor.

Rarotonga, Cook Islands

5 out of 5
We took the art tour conducted by a native carver from New Zealand. Very , very interesting. We saw some of his work and the stories he told on himself were fasinating.
Don't Miss: The shell carvings.

Pros: The friendliness of the crew

Cons: Difficulty in setting up
