Love Cairns. Didn't do any excursions. Just wandered around the Esplanade and checked out the markets.

Cairns is the port where we scheduled to see the Great Barrier Reef from a glass-bottomed boat excursion, run by Celebrity/Sunlovers Cruises. The excursion, however, was designed so badly (and described in the enticing brochure so inaccurately) that nearly all of those signed up for the glass-bottomed boat never got to see the Reef.

Cairns itself was quite a nice city. The cbd area was clean and modern looking with many shops, parkland and an attractive boardwalk. The excursion which included a trip out to the Great Barrier reef for snorkelling with lunch included was definitely a highlight and worth the money. The only negative was that the part of the reef that we saw was quite devoid of colour.

Again pay for bus into town ($20) and again long waiting times for bus and tender to get back onto the ship

Although we left our cabin as soon as the captain made the announcement to disembark, the line was back to Princess Live. We stayed in line until we reached the busses. When we asked which bus was ours, we were told Blue 3. There was no Blue 3. We later found that others had boarded the bus from a different, much cheaper tour and the bus left. The person loading the bus apparently did not read the tickets. We were put on another tour. The only thing similar to ours was the glow worms. We got our money back. But we do not think we will be back to Australia, had done a great deal of research and did not get what we had planned.

The lines for the tender were way too long! The scenery on the railway was nice.
