There wasn't really much to do at Yorkey's Knob so we took a ten minute shuttle bus into Cairns. Here there was another man made swimming lagoon and a larger shopping/restaurant area. We went to the Casino where there is an area on the rooftop called Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome. Here we saw a Crocodile, birds and reptiles. You were also able to do zip-lining and a ropes course. Last time we were here we did the Aquaduck Ride which was really good.

The port here has nice places to eat on the Boardwalk, about a mile to the lagoon. Easy walk to the reefs boats. Right off the ship is Hemmingways Brewery...very nice place. Don't miss the reef.

Our excursion took us straight from the cruise ship to reef. The great barrier reek trip was expensive, not worth the cost, late in pick-up and drop off. Toilets broke and smelled horrible on ride.

Unfortunately our ship tendered at Yorkies Knob this time which means a 25 minute ride into Cairns. Usually we can tie up Quayside at Cairns but they are modernising everything up there and it wasn’t possible this time. This is a great city to visit and there is lots to do. There are great places to visit on the Esplanade and on the main street. There is a large casino and a visit to Cairns wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the barrier reef hotel which is opposite the casino.

Didn't do excursion, made our own way into Cairns from Marina.

Once again, no harbour at Yorkey;s Knob so ships lifeboats tender you ashore. Situated approx thirty minutes outside Cairns, you will need to take the coach into town. Nothing much to see at the Knob just a small restaurant and bar. We took a tour on a period train to Kuranda, terrific views on the two hour journey. Recommended as an alternative to the Great Barrier reef. In the afternoon we visited Cairns. A pleasant, if sticky, one horse town with lovely outside pools and promenades. Kind of how I imagined it would be.
