Very interesting place Port Arthur. Walking around the old penal ruins is very interesting. Sad to visit the site of the modern day mass shooting. Was easy to spend the day here looking around.

We loved the quiet beauty of Port Arthur. The ship can’t pull up so a tender is required, but the trip on the tender is short and leads you to one of the most beautiful spots we have ever seen (and we travel a lot). There is no need to book an excursion here unless you want to your something outside the site, as the townspeople give free guided tours of the main points of the historical site. The mountains, trees, ocean, and history were amazing. This was one of our favorite stops on any cruise we’ve ever been on.

No need to do an excursion; this is easily done on your own.You tender to the site, and the site is really all there is. But you can easily spend a day walking through all the buildings and reading the information signs. There are also lovely gardens to walk through. I’ve read reviews saying this port is boring, and all I can say is, yes, it doesn’t have shops (other than a small but nice gift shop),and there’s no “entertainment,” but if this doesn’t interest you, why do you travel? And why did you come to Australia? Here you can learn a lot about the founding of the country. The site is very well-presented and quite fascinating. There is also a cafe where you can get lunch, or you can tender back to the ship for lunch and tender back out after lunch.

My favorite place in Australia, we had a free guided tour and learned a lot about the history. Had a wonderful full day at the old prision and grounds would love another visit. Lovely large tearooms.

Did a ships tour, Lavender Farm and wine tasting was very good and wine tasting very informative. Only issue the tender was half hour late leaving the ship due to customs or clearance, so this half hour had to be made up by the tour company by cutting our stops shorter, which I did not think was fair, so in the end it all was a bit rushed.

Took the “Behibd the scenes walking tour” which was ok but slow and we missed a lot of what there is to see at this amazing place. Would go our own way in future if we were to visit by cruise ship again. Bought a beautiful painting from a very nice local artist - Highlight of the trip!
