Friendly port. Markets, beach (not for swimming, deadly jelly fish) large man made lagoon (for swimming).

Far too short on time. With tendering it needs to be a full day. This ships last tender was 12noon.

Yes, my 1 star review is to get attention to the problem. It is a huge challenge, if not impossible to book Independent tours in Airlie Beach. Most operators will not deal with cruise ship passengers. They all leave port between 8am and 9am. Cruise ship folk really don’t start arriving till after 9:00. The cruise ships really need to offer more excursions (in my case it was scuba, and Voyager of the Seas had zero scuba excursions).

The beach is pictureque but not much to do if you are not a beach person. We did the Great Barrier Reef excursion which was AWESOME. They had people up like lifeguards watching, people in row boats watching, provided life vests and noodles for people who were hesitant to get into the water. They even had a glass bottom boat.
