The port is industrial, but the country itself was beautiful and interesting. We visited Antigua, which was beautiful, but wished we had more time to spend there.

a very pleasant experience because we didn't expect our scheduled excursion to be that great. Instead, we had a terrific guide. He had excellent English language skills and was a wealth of knowledge about his country. We visited an old town about 80 minutes from the port (again a long bus ride) but this guy made it worthwhile. I would recommend this port stop again.

Went on outstanding excursion up into the mountains and visited a Mayan temple. A high point of the entire cruise because of an excellent knowledgeable guide. The country, its history, and the world of the Maya came to life. I spoke to other passengers who weren't so lucky: the same excursion was a disaster for those on the second bus with a terrible guide.

Our favourite stop was Guatemala, we opted for the tour to Antigua. As we had no real prior expectations, we were really pleased & surprised to discover a delightful colonial city. Plenty of little streets and interesting architecture, beautiful churches. Almost every house of size seems to have an inner courtyard. Check out Casa Santo Domingo, you can stroll through their public grounds and gardens. They’ve a McDonalds (free Wi-Fi & restrooms) with a beautiful courtyard al-fresco eating area resplendent with gardens, fountain completed with a vista of the Agua Volcano!

Awful poverty could not be disguised. Enjoyed Antigua and the drive there very much, seeing and understanding the impact of volcanoes. Marvelous artesanias.
