We thoroughly enjoyed Guatemala. We went on an excursion to Antigua, which was delightful, and we had the BEST guide, Marian Cordova with Blue Planet Tours, who spoke English like a native English speaker (no accent whatsoever) and was extremely knowledgeable about the country and what we were seeing as we drove through the countryside.

Quite a trip, a recent volcanic eruption had destroyed some roads so our 9 hour excursion took 10.5 with 9 hours being in a good coach on high mountain roads as we visited a Maya ruins site, 9000 foot elevation

We took the NCL bus excursion that drove past 'ground zero' (of the 2018 volcanic eruption that killed 2,000 and wiped out 2 villages & a golf course) on the way to the Ixchim Mayan Ruins. Interesting to see Mayan decendants still performing ceremonies around altars.

Antigua Guatemala is a must! Have as much time there as possible. Try to buy some textile from the mountain ladies. They are working very hard, drive to town by bus for 4 hours and their price is reasonable for real handmade works. Try to find lady called Elena - she is genuine , very friendly and speaks good English.

We took the ships excursion to Antigua. Beautiful old town. If you have trouble getting around be careful. The streets are all cobblestones. The footing is pretty uneven.

We saw an active volcano with a small eruption on the way to Antiqua which was a lovely little town. We also visited a Jade Museum and the main plaza. It was a little difficult to avoid the street vendors who were very aggressive.

Include tour of Antigua. An abundance of historic building and nice churches. Required about three miles of walking.
