We did the train/boat excursion and had a great time. The bus was comfortable and we learned a lot about the environment and Costa Rica.

Loved the excursion we took which consisted of bus ride, to train, to cruise river on a pontoon. Our guide was excellent and made sure we stopped to view monkeys, sloths, and birds.

Lovely port, great market, able to purchase souvenirs, listen to local musicians performing at the port. Walked into town, lovely day, beautiful sunny day

Took the boat bus and train ride. Got to see lots of wild animals and really learned a lot about the area.

We took the Hacienda excursion. Percy was AWESOME. His depth of knowledge was impressive which made his demonstrations of banana flowers, coffee beans, sugar cane and brown sugar fascinating. He even stopped the bus to point out active steam vents emanating from a volcano. He spoke the entire time we were traveling, pointing out the plants, animals and explaining the history of the area. As a retired educator, I was very impressed. Percy made the long bus ride interesting and more than worth it to get to the Hacienda.

While I prefer the Pacific side, (I've been to the Pacific side several times), this port (and the 2 cities to the south) are very different. I could vacation there for a month, but could not live there (like I could on the Pacific side); VERY laid back, less touristy, very "island/Caribbean" - lush, tropical, slower....beautiful place, but, you'd better be into rest and water sports because there's nothing else to do.

Again a bit more of a port than a destination but the trip inland to a coffee and sugarcane hacienda was great ( other than the 4 total hours in the bus).
