Ship went into 3 locks and went up 85 feet. A great experience. Did the 6 hour train ride. Very nice. However the bus we had was older and very very noisy.

This is a great place to take an excursion. The Panama Canal is the big draw here. A trip to the old town of Panama and view of Panama City(modern) is a good choice here unless you want to tour the canal in great detail.

It was considerably more interesting than I’d anticipated. Staying on the ship, one could easily see how the locks work.

There were no tours...just thru the canal and back. We enjoyed seeing the huge ships going thru the canal from our table in the buffet.

take the 179 dollar excursion....well worth it as you go through the cut and Pacific locks all the way to the Pacific Ocean....long and hot (10 hours) but if you want to see the Panama Canal....this is it!

The canal experience is awesome if you take the time to learn about the history of it beforehand. In order to appreciate what your experiencing you need to understand what is actually happening. We were blessed with good weather so it made it that much better. We teathered off the boat and took an excursion which took us around a section of Gutan lake to witness the animals along the rain forest. We also did a short hike through the rain forest. It was fun but you have to be fairly active to enjoy it. This is not for handicapped people.

BUCKET LIST! Reason for trip - was booked back on 2018, and finally got to go. Every thing I was hoping for. Is a pretty much all day thing as takes a while to do first lock, then hang out in lake until you go back out. Everyone runs to front of ship to watch, but we were off back and found that a phenomenal sight. Also went around to different levels to watch - including by a window as the ship actually scraped against a lock 😱

Although I've done five(5) full transits through the Panama Canal, both Eastern & Western, this was my first time going through the original locks albeit only the Caribbean portion into Gatun Lake. Still it was fascinating to see the Canal that was built over 100 years ago and the extraordinary engineering accomplishment of its day. Also the contrast between the original locks and the newer locks that were recently completed within the past decade and the differences between the two sets of locks. Certainly a bucket list item that you never get tired of seeing.
