Our ship just dropped anchor for a few hours in the lake and then we came back out the locks. Coming out they lowered the water too soon and our ship hit the locks doing damage to the serenity deck breaking glass, bending and breaking railing.

This was our first time to go thru the new locks. We were able to disembark the ship after passing thru the locks and going into Lake Gatun. We then went to the observation platform and watched the ship turn around and to go back thru the locks. Quite and experience!! We were then transported to Colon where we boarded the ship.

This was everything I imagined and hoped it would be. This was the main event and it was excellent. Valerie offered lectures and there were movies to see. I had read "Pathway between the Seas" so I was well informed and it totally lived up to expectations. We took the excursion onto the ferry to through the full set of locks to the Pacific. I was disappointed not to get to ride the train (a bus took us back to the ship) and wish we could have stayed overnight and spent another day in Panama City. It was excellent, hot, muggy, (no mosquitoes!) with great service, great lectures and guides. A fascinating experience.

Nice to have the entire transit on big screens all over ship or view from the decks. The Canal pilot on board gave narration, information and history. We were given certificate that we had been thru the locks of Panama Canal. Joy was the 1st large cruise ship to go thru.

We stayed on the ship and watched from an upper deck the Canal passage the whole trip. Buy the DVD of the voyage through. it gives you a perspective that you can only get from a 360 overview. A bonus was the 8' Alligator as we were leaving the locks on the way back through near the bow. We got some great pictures.
