Due to time costraints we were not able to do the entire canal as it takes 10 hours to go all the way. We were bussed about half way across and then took a ferry through the locks. After reaching Panama City on the Pacific side we were bussed back. The ship had to delay departure for an hour and a half. Over 600 people took the tour on multiple busses and ferries. The trip was AMAZING.

We did the Portobelo/Panama canal excursion. I was disappointed with the first half which was the bus ride to Portobelo. It is a Unesco World Heritage site with a lot of history, but it was a long ride (65-75 minutes) there and an hour back before traveling to the Canal. I felt a bit cheated because the canal was so cool and we were there in time to see a ship going through the locks, but there wasn't a long enough time to watch the ship, see the movie about how the canal was built and to visit the museum/shop that was there. I would have preferred a longer time at the Canal and less time in the town of Portobelo.

Hired driver/car on internet 'Tours by Locals'. Very good tour across to Panama City, local insight & highlights. Spent about 5 1/2 hours total, and included visit to MiaFlores Locks to view ships in transit. Rain storm in Panama City, but otherwise - perfect.

Only giving it 3 Stars because of the good shopping that we found in the local towns away from the tourist areas. I am guessing that we did not go to the better parts of this port. But from what we saw, we couldn't recommend it.

Afraid, looked like a bombed city. Deboarded my excursion bus and couldn’t get inside fast enough.

With so many cruise lines docking there the port needs dramatic upgrading which would benefit the locals.

Didn't like what was offered for excursions but was able to visit the canal on our own.

WORST. We docked at an industrial pier and stayed on the ship, watching the container ships being unloaded. Crappy souvenirs being sold from tents on the pier. This was only useful to pick up people from excursions, which we didn't do. We transited the Panama Canal in the Sanctuary, and that was well worth the money for that day since we remained on the ship. I would have liked to see more of the Country on an excursion, and many people commented on the train ride to the west coast.
