We did the mangrove excursion, which was fun, but it did feel like it was staged. We went on small boats that were pushed around with sticks, but it felt like they had just wacked down some of the mangrove to create a path and then we were herded through the paths, one after another. Then we stopped at some shops for about 15 minutes, which was plenty for me, but I don't think it was enough for my wife. After that, we did a tour of the old town. The architecture was great. The guide was excellent. He spoke english very well.

We did a van tour for $30pp but noticed others in van were charged $40. Van tour went to a few places (pose with a local with $1-2 tip), captive stores and "tours" of other captive stores (don't have to buy anything). Ferry to Old Town was not operating (was $4 the last time we went) but would be preferred. Don't know how much taxi would be for Old Town, but we recommend forgetting about the van tours and just get to Old Town which is definitely worth it and worth exploring at your leisure.

The walking tour was great. Didn't like being followed by the venders all time while walking.

We didn't actually book an excursion but was offered a special deal aboard ship for $15 per person to go to the Emerald Center in the middle of the old city. We enjoyed having a cup of coffee in the square while admiring the old church. The crafts people were really talented and we bought a few items. As a mineral collector, I was also able to find a nice emerald in quartz matrix and my wife a natural emerald pendant.

We took a city bus tour and a short walking tour of the "Old City" After the walking tour we say down for a cup of coffee, and had to rush back to the ship. Everyone we spoke to complained that the few hours at this port was not enough.

Princess excursion buses all ended up in same places at same time--total chaos! It was our favorite destination and disappointing that it was so chaotic.
