We were not sure what we had gotten into at first, as we got into an old bus that transported us to what was called the "Terminal". The terminal consisted of a huge group of venders, hounding us to buy this or that. Once we asked and found out where we were supposed to go to find our tour, we had to wander though the middle of all the venders to get to the right place. When there we were assigned a large van/transport and met with our guides. The van/transport was air conditioned and comfortable. We were treated by personable guides, ansering all our questions as we drove to the Mayan ruins. The guide was knowledgeable and knew is way all over the areas we were traveling. When we got to the ruins, we were met by the Mayan tour guide. He did an excellent job of informing us about the history and all about the ruins. The thing that impressed most, was we had only us four in our tour group. We could hear and understand all he was saying. Other tour groups in the area had 15 to 30 or more in their groups. I assume that unless the guy had a loud speaker, he could not be heard by all in their group. This made our tour especially good. Overall, this was a great excursion, with a lot of knowledge passed along for learning experience. And a plus for the excursion, we were delivered right to the ship dock so we didn't have to wait to ride the old bus back to port. We were treated very well and had some very educated and fun tour guides.

Had a very bad experience with booking an excursion through the ship mate app and had to divert 30 minutes in because they wanted more money. Do not book through shore fox or shipmate.

We took a ship excursion to Merida City ($39). It was a pleasant trip. The bus ride was comfortable and pretty short. The tour guide spoke the entire bus ride there (but not coming back), so it seemed even shorter. In town we walked to a few of the sites and got a brief history of each. Then we had an hour for shopping or lunch. I really don't think that is enough time for both. We had about 45 minutes to shop the port shops once we returned.

We did the all inclusive beach day. It was a little early in the morning, but we managed. The ride was about 45 minutes - a little long - but we saw wild Flamingos in the salt flats, so that was fun. The drinks were pretty good, the food was about what you could expect. Plentiful, relatively good. The beach was clean, but as one of the last buses to arrive, slim pickings on the beach chairs. The pool looked clean and well maintained, but we didn't get in it.

This port is just getting started... the vendors were super annoying "want to buy this? want to buy that?". We just had to get it in our head to say "no thanks". The beach was small but nice. The water was clear and sand was white and soft. We rented a table, chairs and umbrella for the day for $20. The vendors on the beach were extra annoying. We bought bracelets for the kids at home and once we did that, every vendor thought we'd buy something.
