Plan an excursion in this port. We did the Dzibilchaltun Mayan ruin site and it was amazing. We were able to climb the ruins, and even swim in the cenote. It was a great experience.

We did the horseback riding and beach break excursion. The resort at the beach break was a lot of fun and had an open bar. If you're into relaxing and drinking then this is a great choice. The food was not included in the price though so we spent about $15 for lunch. The town of Progresso is definitely "old" and does not offer the variety of shopping as other larger ports. However, if you are into Mayan ruins then take advantage because Progresso has some of the best sites to visit.

Nothing but a beach and a shopping area unless your wanted to go to "all inclusive" resort areas or take a two-hour (each way) bus trip to the ruins. (I had looked forward to photographing there; but, too much travel on a bus for a bad back and too much walking after getting there.
