Progresso is not for everyone. The ships dock at the end of a 4 mile long pier. There is a small duty free shopping and dining area around the dock, but "town" is a car ride away. If you are more comfortable in uniform building code, manicured landscape and freshly painted commercial zones, Progresso may not be for you. That's fine. There is a small strip of beachfront restaurant/shopping on the "town" end of the pier, but the rest of Progresso looks like Mexico. It is, however, one of the safest places in the world. The biggest "draw" for us in this port was the Mayan history and some of the only fully accessible (still climb-able) ruins. I highly recommend researching "yucatancenote.com" and the tours they offer.

Was kinda afraid to get off there but got on FREE shuttle and went into town. I like how we went Thur a drug store to enter the town because it was easy to remember how to get back. Went had a massage on the beach. Loved that.

We actually took a Carinval excursion at this port. We did the Holy Guacamole tour. It was fantastic. We had an air conditioned bus take us to a private residence with a private beach. After our cooking class taught by our awesome tour guide, where we learned to make awesome Guacamole and tasty margaritas (I don't drink, but I tried them), we then had access to the beach, hammocks, and great mexican buffet. It was a small group and lots of fun. I would definitely recommend this excursion.

We enjoy going to the all-inclusive Technotel while here. The food and drinks are great. The beach is beautiful and peaceful! Mario is a great guide with Autoprogreso. I highly recommend!

We did the VIP all inclusive beach resort for the excursion. I highly recommend an excursion for Progreso because everything to see and do is very far from the port and it was nice being with a group of people with a guide. There is a small area of shops right when you get off the boat, but otherwise you will have to take some sort of transportation to reach any of the other areas in Merida. The VIP excursion was fantastic. It took about 30 min to get to the private beach, but we were on a charter bus so it was comfortable. The tour guide Gaby was very sweet and she was a great host! The day consisted of lounging on the beach, an all you can eat Mexican lunch buffet, and open bar. There were some group activities planned that were fun to participate in. And also you can pay a small price for a massage next to the beach (which I opted to do).

We have been there many times and done many excursions to the ruins, Merida, etc. We originally planned to stay on the ship, but because we did not get to the beach in Cozumel, we decided to book the Mi Casa Es Su Casa excursion. We had a fabulous time. There were 35 people on the bus. There were plenty of loungers and plenty of shade between the 2 pools and the beach. The tour guide, Super Mario, was great. He had a wealth of knowledge about the area and we got to chat with him quite a bit while at the beach house about his life in Mexico. The bar waiter continually circulated bringing drinks and the buffet was open the entire time we were there. The food was tasty. The Guacamole lesson was fun. We will definitely book this excursion the next time we are in Progreso, Yucatan.

Progresso was fun we had a taxi driver take us to a beach and drive us to a Pharmacy for inhalers, always a good time to stalk up on meds in Mexico. A lot cheaper than in the US.
