Are there any free or cheap beaches that are family friendly in Progreso? Or do you know if there is anything else that would be good for a big family to do?

We booked a tour through the company AutoProgresso which buses people from the pier to Merida. We toured the Uxmal Ruins for about half the cost compared to booking through Carnival. Plan to be bombarded by vendors trying to sell you knock off items if you stay in town and choose not to do an excursion.

The bus ride to the Dzibilchaltun Ruins was awesome and didn't take too long. Be prepared to do a lot of walking at that site.

We did not enjoy this port at all... The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because we enjoyed our relaxation time on the ship... We tried to walk through the shops. That was awful. We went in to two shops and that's all I could handle. The merchants were extremely pushy. My anxiety level was through the roof. I'm glad our next cruise isn't stopping at this port.

Been here 3 times, keeps getting worse. Why not spend 2 days in cozumel or just another day at sea. Either would be better.
