Progresso is more "old" Mexico. We went to see some Mayan ruins, which were awesome! There was a beautiful swimming pool when we went to ruins. It was very refreshing after the walk.

We were able to visit the local markets here with the help of our taxi driver and enjoyed shopping there a lot.

Not the best of ports. We booked a trip to the Reef Club resort from outside the cruise ship and that was fantastic but there were little choices. The town was poor. Not a lot of people who speak English.

Progreso seems to be a work in progress. Visiting the ruins was ok. We had signed up to kayak but since it was low tide they said we might be carrying our kayaks...we didn't eat anywhere there.
