We loved Progreso,we took a shore excursion to see a Mayan temple. It was great. There are a few shops right at the dock which had the usual touristy stuff but was cheap.Really cheap.Definitely stock up on souvenirs at Progreso as Cozumel is expensive.

This port was horrible!!!! We took an excursion to Mérida and the constant barrage of people trying to sell us stuff was very off putting. I ended our excursion an hour and a half early because I was so turned off by people constantly trying to sell us stuff. I do not plan to visit here again

We just wanted a day at the beach. We had 10 kids in our group who weren't interested in arch. sites. Most people warned us away from the beach. Said it was not spectacular & was murky. But, coming from Galveston beaches we thought it was excellent. Warm, soft sand, you could go way out and still stand in shallow water. I guess it's all a matter of expectations. No cost involved.

Ugh. there is really nothing to do in this port. We picked up a tour and visited Merida and some ruins, and our guide was very informative, but it was just ok. The information about Yucatan was new to interesting, but we only had a few hours, so we didn't get to do much. If you want to stay on the ship during an excursion day, this is the day to do it. There is no place to visit the beach and there are no resorts around Progreso.
