We did two excursions and were disappointed in both. We were driven through run down areas and shown buildings that were abandoned and destroyed (i.e. hotel from Blue Hawaii). The first excursion was a full day ending in the Luau. The Luau show was excellent! The waterfall was so far away we would barely see it. Most time was spent driving through horrible areas. The second excursion was half day and most of the sites were the same as the day before except it ended at the Fern Grotto, which was nice. Both drivers even told the same jokes.

We signed up for a tour of the Waimea Canyon, Fern Grotto and the Wailua River cruise. The fern grotto was closed so we ended up stopping at every wide spot on the road to see not much. Our tour bus driver made the trip torture. She talked in a dead pan monotone and said things such as "that tree over there" and "this is the new Army building, it's for the Army and it's new. " The only bright spot on this tedious, torturous 8 hour trip was the Wailua River tour where we were serenaded with a varitety of songs and Hawaiin dances. The rest of the trip was terrible.

My favorite Port of call! Absolutely gorgeous. Did some beach time as well as a helicopter tour. Wonderful.

The best part of Kauai was the view of the Napali coast as we left. Due to a botched shore excursion we did not get a helicopter ride. (We think probably due to heli port company booking too many walk in's). Very disappointing, as this was to be the highlight of my trip! We did get a land tour (the tour was the "Heaven and Earth" excursion) which was nice but way too long, which spoiled it. The entire excursion was to be 5 hours (we planned to spend the afternoon at the pool); instead we spent a whole day either in the van or waiting for the helicopter ride which didn't happen (due to a malfunctioning door latch...why didn't they have another copter for us??). We were exhausted and it wasted our day.
