Kona was a tender port. We were taken over in the tender boats. The port was easy to walk and shop. We did the Submarine excursion. It was fun going in the submarine.

Went shopping and bar hopping all within walking distance. Ship takes you ashore in life boats.

We did a sea life snorkeling adventure. Waters were calm. They had a breakfast buffet and a lunch buffet on the ship. Didn’t see a single fish but they made it fun.

We took the ship’s excursion. It was billed as the snorkeling and dolphin adventure, but they apparently forgot to tell the dolphins, who didn’t show up. The cruise on the catamaran south along the Kona coast was picturesque. The excursion includes equipment rental, but we take our own. The rental equipment looked to be first class if you are interested. The spot they picked for the day had good coral and lots of fish. Three-foot swells made snorkeling and getting back on the boat more of a chore than you want, but overall it was a fun trip.

Drove through a lava Desert to get to Waikoloa Beach. Another relaxing day, but because of the lava reef was not as nice to swim in.

Perhaps my least favorite Hawaiian port. We toured some coffee places. The highlight for me was as it was getting dark, the captain turned out all the lights on the outside of the ship and got a little closer to the Kilauea volcano- as close as he was willing to risk. It was really neat.

Booked a snorkeling excursion from the ship. Was easy to tender in and the tour was right on the pier. We saw spinner and bottle nose dolphins and many humpback whales on the boat. Saw one small turtle and many fish while snorkeling.

Enjoyed the historical tour and the painted church. We still had plenty of shopping and beach time afterwards!
