If you planned a helicopter tour, have a back up excursion to book last minute in case of rain. It is one of the rainiest islands of Hawaii. Also, call to confirm the helicopter tour before you jump in a taxi to head to the airport. The helicopter tours are not great about letting customers know that day whether they are able to fly.

Hilo is a cute town to wander around, but know that it's on the rainy side of the island so bring a jacket/umbrella. You must drive/take a bus to see the volcano and it's at elevation, so dress WARM.

This is the only port we took a planned excursion. We went to a black sand beach (beautiful), wine tasting, orchid farm and coffee plantation. Tour guide was very informative and we enjoyed it.

Volcanoes National Park was good. Mauna Loa was fun. Onomea Bay is off the beaten path, but if you get there, it's breathtaking

Rental car again. If you have a car, make sure you visit Big Island Candy, had a lot of yummy samples for free. Saw a lot of beautiful scenery. ride up to Rainbow Falls and there is a scenic route by the coast that was beautiful as well.
