Loved this port. Our helicopter excursion was cancelled because of the weather so we spent the day in town. We actually walked the two miles from the port but took the Crystal bus back to the dock.

We just did the helicopter tour here which was an experience however I don't think we really got to see much of Hilo and so left not really thinking it was much other than the amazing aspect of the volcano and it's effect on the island. There is a Hop on/Hop off bus that would be worth doing if you start early and get the jump on the crowds. I would save your money and do the helicpoter tour on Kauai instead - wow factor there is huge!

2 day port in Hilo And made the mistake of taking the free shuttle to walmart only to find the the hawaiian shirts were cheaper in the small shops. Took the free shuttle to the old town market area the next day and loved the market, park and old town shops and authentic restaurants. Wish we had done that shuttle on the first day as we had to get back to port for a early departure.

Went on the ship's Volcano Excusion. Guide was quite knowledgeable and interesting. This is worth the trip.

Just finished a wonderful tour of Volcanoes National park! We had a great tour guide (Kirk) our group was small only 11 people. Explored lava tube, and crater rim, but our tour guide was wonderful and made the tour! Very knowledgeable and entertaining.

There was a parade the day we were in port, or you can go up to the active Valcano.

We rented a car and drove to the scenic drive and Carlsmith Beach. Carlsmith beach was very beautiful. You can swim with the sea turtles there.

Went on Botanical Garden tour which was wonderful. Lunch was to be at a "gazebo" overlooking Rainbow Falls. Gazebo was more like a shed but view was fabulous & tour guide was great.

another freight terminal stop, but many vendors to great the ship for excursion options. seeing an active volcano was a highlight
