Hilo is small old town. Saw several sites on tour. Kona would have been better for me.

We just did the hoppa on hoppa off bus. It was good and some of the places we stopped were beautiful.

Didn't see much of Hilo but our excursion up to the Mauna Kea was a highlight of our cruise.

High winds made it a challenge for the ship to dock but the crew went to extra measures. We were able to tour the island waterfalls, points of interest and Volcano National Park.

Next time we'll go to Kona. Volcanoes National Park wasn't as cool as I thought it would be and our tour booked through hawaiicruiseexcursions.com took us to a bunch of gift shops instead of places to see/learn.
