We had been there before so skipped the main sights of Doge's Palace, St Mark's Basilica. We took the back streets guided walking tour which was great. Venice was very, very crowded--difficult to walk and it got pretty warm in the afternoon. Would never want to go there in the summer.

Great city! However, my father got pickpocketed twice. Fortunately, his passport was safe, but all the cash he had in his wallet was gone. Please leave all of your important documents in a safe at a hotel. Be carful!

Came a couple of days prior to cruise out of Venice. Beautiful city. Buy the Vaporetto pass for easy transportation around the city. Also, get "skip the line" tickets ahead of time for St. Mark's Square, the Campanile Tower and Doge's Palace. We walked right in to all 3, while others stood in line for over an hour. I bought Rick Steve's book on Venice and found it extremely useful. Full of maps and information.

We had time to walk right through the town and visit all the major attractions. Our son had done his homework before the cruise started, so he made a wonderful tour leader! We then enjoyed a leisurely ride back by boat the length of the Grand Canal. Loved Venice - every bit of it!

Very busy and touristy but worth the visit. Do not do the RCI excursions - they are terribly expensive - you can get around equally wwll on your own and if you plan well there are some good trips on Viator and other private agencies.

Of course Venice is excellent. It's unique. We stayed several days before embarkation and enjoyed the chance to get lost in areas we hadn't visited before. Sailing out of Venice is an amazing experience, simply not like anyplace else.

A wonderful city, full of lots of sites to visit, but, like all the ports of call on this cruise, it was exceptionally busy. No need for an excursion, as most of the sites are in walking distance if you are relatively fit, and if not, the Vaporetta water buses service all the major places to visit.
