We just walked off the ship and strolled around the town which was right next to the port. Next time we may try to do the canyoneering excursion,

It was wonderful to be back in the Azores again and to see an island we had never been to. I was surprised to see they had McDonalds. My husband and I met on Terceira Island when we were both stationed there during our time in the Air Force. Terceira didn't have any fast food places when we were there. It was so great to get some Brigadeiros and Galaoes again. Maybe next time, I'll ask for "Prego nao prato com batatas fritas." It would be nice to be able to have a few days here or maybe even cruise to the other Islands.

Unfortunately it was slightly overcast so we didn't get to see the glory of the blue green lake that the city is famous for, but it was a lovely visit and we had a nice nice hike to the viewing site the craters lakes. We also got to see remanants of the Roman aqueducts which are still in excellent condition. It's hard to believe the ingenuity that preceded us without the help of modern technology. The downtown architecture is beautiful. The city gardens are equally amazing.

Very pretty place! We didn’t go on an excursion, but took a leisurely stroll through the city. It’s a quiet little fishing seaport village, that had a big cruise ship there. Great food, very nice sweet and patient people. They accommodated the mass of humanity descending on their town with grace and contagious smiles. A must see is the old fort. I think it was built in the 1500’s, but not sure. Burned up serious camera footage here. Ponta Delgado and the Azores just seem to rise out of the ocean.

Very nice tour of the island booked through COSTCO. There were only 8 people on the tour which is much better than being ona big bus. The guide was very informative. COSTCO tours are less expensive than Holland America tours. The only problem is that you need to locate the starting point for their tours which is not always easy. With Holland America tours, it is always clear where there tours start. Usually at the pier where the ship is docked.

We did an excursion that took us to a green house facility that grows pineapples that was very interesting and then we went to see the two different volcanic lakes, one green and one blue. The bus ride there was great and we saw the many pastures of dairy cows that were milked right in the pastures. Something that we had never seen before. Very educational and enjoyable excursion. The port was very clean as well.

This is an environmentally-friendly island, and dairy farming is a huge part of their economy. While very foggy and rainy on our full day there, the morning we left cleared off to reveal a verdant and dramatic topography.

Easy access and went whale and Dolphin watching. Have been here before and would recommend the Island tour to the lakes
