Was not expecting much from this port from previous reviews. Msc charged for a shuttle bus to the nearest town. Soulac de mer. This was a nice town with a lovely beach.

We'd been to Bordeaux before and so did the "on your own" excursion. A lovely town where you can easily walk and enjoy. Rue St. Catherine offers a lot in the way of shops and cafes. The only drag (unavoidable) is that the trip into Bordeaux from Le Verdon takes two hours by bus and then two hours back. Nothing can be done about this so it is what it is. Just be aware there is some bus time involved.

WHY? Could not leave ship at this industrial harbor. Waited over 3 hours for the passengers who had taken a tour that left Bordeaux in the morning. I felt that since we did not book a tour our time was stolen, I enjoyed the sailing to Le Verdon but we could have stayed in Bordeaux a few hours for those who would have enjoyed touring the city more. Docking for several hours in Le Verdon was a vast for those of us on the ship and was only to accommodate the passengers on the tours returning.

We booked a wine tasting excursion to a chateau - to be honest it was disappointing. I thought we might get to see round the chateau but we only saw the winery. The wine was lovely but not being a red wine drinker it was wasted on me. Crackers and/or cheese to go with it would have been a nice touch.

We took the ship excursion bus to the city of Bordeaux. It is a 2 hour trip each way. Having never been there, we enjoyed our walkabout, but don't feel the need to return. There was an ugly incident with the local guide who lost her temper at a guest who did not pick up a map on the bus.
