A great first stop, however the weather was not on our side! The Viking museum was a fun stop and lost of pretty houses to look at. However the view from the com tower was in the mist.

We enjoyed the market stalls and the old town... very pretty! We didn't book any excursions as it was our first port of call. The tourist info centre is the amber coloured building close to where you disembark. There is a nice park area with a lake, and market stalls in the square with traditional wooden and knitted Norwegian thing's. Internet at Burger King which can be reached sitting outside on the benches (although we did purchase an ice crean Sunday for approximately £2.50)

Stavanger is the oil capital of Norway and it shows with all the oil rigs enroute into port. The weather was cold with unrelenting rain on the day we docked. But our ship was docked right by old town and we walk through some pretty colourful shop houses. 5 mins and we were at the Stavanger Oil Museum. Entrance is NOK120 each. From 1 June, you can get free entrance to Stavanger Museum and the Canning Museum. We were there one week before, so couldn't benefit from this. The oil museum was very interesting and we spent 3 hours here, partly to escape the heavy rain. Due to the weather, we only walked around a little more before retiring to the ship.

Avoid The Red Hop on Hop Off busses at this port Cost £60 for 2 tickets only to find it takes you away from the main Tourist type shopping area. We hopped off at stop 3 and took a slow walk back to the ship via the pedestrianised shopping streets
