Picturesque port area with shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. We did an excursion that was a cruise down one the fjords. It had magnificent views of waterfalls and landscapes. It was only four hours, so were able to have lunch at a pub and meander our way back to the ship. Be sure to layer up! It can be cold.

Loved Stavanger when visited from the Queen Mary 2 Fjords Cruise 2-9 June. We arrived on Sunday morning with really nice weather & went on the open top city sightseeing tour to get our bearings. We got off by the lake In the park and sat watching the swans. We soon found a Starbucks across the road from the park which served delicious Cappuccino coffee. We then went for a walk & found the Hansen Restaurant & Bar where we couldn’t get served alcohol until 1pm as was Sunday. Loved Stavanger can’t wait till we return on Iona

In Stavanger we did "Pulpit Rock Cruise" through the Norwegian fjords. The fjords are breathtaking. Pulpit Rock was shrouded in mist when we first got there but as we idled and cruised around it, the mist lifted. And the boat was playing very dramatic music which perfectly fit the atmosphere. Great shore excursion.

Excursion: Food and History of Stavanger was poor value: $110pp and worth about $40pp. Guide was not from Stavanger, the food was little and presented in 2 sessions instead of spread out and no one to explain what we were eating and how it was prepared. Visited a couple museums and the guide seemed to try to fill in time - and not very well. Very disappointed.

We did the Pulpit Rock hike ( not for the faint hearted as very active) it was 8km in total but worth it - although feeling it now. The view at the top was breathtaking but also a sheer drop
