Such a beautiful city! I would recommend at least a day to look around precruise. E sure to check out the fish and chips cart, hot dog stand and braun and co bakery. Also explore the main church in the city, the rainbow road. Lastly one thing I cannot recommend enough is flyover Iceland, what an amazing immersive experience into all of the Icelandic landscapes. The people here are all so kind and will help if you need, crime is almost nonexistent so no need to wear your backpack in the front for pickpockets here. As for hotels, the Hilton Nordic’s was our choice, very close to the port and was a half hour walk to town. Beautiful and clean rooms. An amazing place to see.

Absolutely loved Reykjavik! I think I could live there. We had an overnight here so we did an excursion the first day and just enjoyed the city the second day. The excursion we did, Glacier Walk and Waterfalls was unbelievable - driving on a glacier and going into a glacier - amazing! The tour was in monster SUVs with special tires which could go on any terrain - which we did. I won't spoil the surprises. Great guides! Another community wide event was going on the second day and we fully immersed and had a great time!

If you are looking for a Golden Circle excursion when we are in port on August 12 at a reasonable price and one that picks us up at the ship and makes sure we are back in time, check out GEOIceland.com. When you select the tour for Aug 12 and enter the discount code KONINGSDAM you will get a 10 percent discount and picked up early at 8 am and back at 4 pm. So we won't miss our departure time. I checked quite a few tour companies and this is the best price and time. They take us in a 19 passenger Mercedes van. They also get great reviews on Trip Advisor.

We decided to rent a vehicle and do the golden circle ourselves. Best.Decision.Ever. We never could have hit all the big stops if we were in a big tour group. It was just drop dead beautiful in July. I’ve been on A LOT of cruises, this port is by far my favorite. I absolutely loved Iceland.

Big city. Fun to walk around the town. We did the HAL excursion, Best of the Golden Circle: Thingvellir, Gullfoss & Geysir, which was excellent. We saw a lot! The overnight stay permitted us to take another excursion with HAL called Glacier Safari by 4-wheel Drive & a Walk in a Glacier Cave. It was such an unusual excursion. We saw snow falling on the top of the glacier. You need warm clothing for this tour.

Iceland is beautiful. This was where our cruise started and we went in 2 days early. We went to the Blue Lagoon just after we landed (we had booked it ahead along with the bus into Reykjavik. We stayed 3 hours and it was so relaxing! We also booked the Golden Circle Tour through GeoTours and it was incredible. Small group of 10, stopped and petted the horses, saw the Geyser, several beautiful waterfalls. The whole tour was about 8 hours. Iceland has terrific cell coverage, you rarely go below 3 bars.

Iceland was as amazing as I had imagined and heard, and after a long time wanting to go, it was a great taste of the country. We rented a car for both days, so first day was the golden circle, and out to Geysir and Gollfoss. The weather was wild, and I'm fine with that, it added to the Iceland experience. Wind, driving rain, sleet, hail, snow, sun, all in the course of 6 hours. Coming back on the 1 over the mountains into Reykjavik the snow plows were out. It was a very full day, but so memorable, and stunning! The second day, we woke at 5 and got on the road out to Vik, 116 miles east of Reykjavik. We were greeted with an amazing sunrise, dramatic clouds that burned off by 7 am and once in Vik, the air was still, not a breath of wind, dry and warm. WE parked up in the Church lot that overlooks the town of Vik and just took it in for a while before heading to Reynisfjara Beach. Once at the beach, we were kind of surprised with the amount of people already there for the hour, but still had a blast and loved the otherworldly surroundings. I've lived on O'ahu, and am from Bermuda, and have seen my share of beautiful beaches, and this one was in the tops for sure. Amazingly beautiful, but in a completely different way.  We made our trip back to Reykjavik an extended 6-hour tour, hitting many places along the way, some well-known, others, well off the beaten path. Again, another full day, but with the next 2 days being sea days, there was plenty of time for r & r. We got a great taste of Iceland and have it on the list for more immediate travel. I can't wait to get back and see more of that amazing island!

Really enjoyed Reykjavik, we had two days in port and we had booked the second day for our trip, which worked out very well as the organisation for getting off the first day left a lot to be desired. We nearly has a fight in the queue to get off as people were trying to push in the ONE line to get off... The port is well worth a visit and you must do at least one trip (we did the golden triangle) - just make sure you take something waterproof with you.
