Did our own thing! Took the train and then the bus to the Tower. Such an amazing site. Then, back on the train to Florence which is always a treat. Walked around, had lunch, then back to Livorno. None in our group were art lovers so we didn’t visit any museums.

Well, the 11,000 caught up to us and brought their entire families with them. Florence was extremely crowded, elbow to elbow, very disappointing. Walking tour was bust, couldn't hear a thing. But wife insisted I buy a leather coat (in 94 degree weather) was too tired, thirsty to argue. Beautiful coat though.

Florence is a good distance from the port, so know that you'll lose a couple of precious hours to the round trip drive from Livorno. Florence is of course huge and impossible to explore thoroughly in a single day. Many tours give it a good try though! I found florence and pisa together were possible to at least skim through quickly, but it was certainly a very long exhausting day!

Unfortunately the trains were on the strike that day. We missed out on Florence and "CinqueTerra. But we did get to visit Pisa. It is simple to take the trains unless they decide to go on a strike, If you have your heart on seeing florence or someother place you might want to book your own tour or do the excursions.,
