Rome was great. Paid for a tour and the guide showed up!!! It was a bigger company so they were standing right where the cruise shuttles drop you off at! The bus ride was great all ac in a new nice bus. One in Rome we paid for the tour of Vatican. Everything is rushed in general with this port since it’s a journey there and back (1hour ) and there’s a lot to see. I wish the tour would have met sooner since we were in port at 730 but didn’t meet until 930. (Would have given us a 2 hour head start). But the company ran the tour well. Everything was smooth. We almost got left at the coliseum taking pictures didn’t see them leaving in the crowd. We literally took 5 pictures and they were out of sight, up the hill on the bus!!! I’m pretty fit and can keep up but this tour was me basically running to keep up with the guide and group. In the city near attractions it’s very crowded and easy to get behind trying to follow 10 other in a line through a crowd. We ended up not meeting up with our guides and sitting eating lunch and meeting them back at the bus stop back at the end of the day. So much better! We got to see the same sights, on our time just a better pace and less stress. I’d go back and only purchase a transfer to Rome or take the train in. Very cheap. Tour on your own.

Did excursion with cruise line, very fast paced and very tiring but saw soooo much...Ultimate Rome, highly recommend, had best pizza ever, would have liked more time to shop in Rome. Will go back!

We chose to go out on our own to Rome...this allowed for A LOT of flexibility...but be sure to allow for 2-3 hours for your trip back to the port. We used public transport the entire time. Well worth the experience! But, taking the Rome on your Own option may have been easier.

Went off the beaten path into the countryside and we loved that too.

We did a hop on hop of bus, got off at the first stop to visit Trevi Fountain, which was heaving with people but we did manage to throw our coins in the fountain and make a wish. We visited most other major sites on foot from then on. We saw the Parthenon, The Forum, The Wedding Cake, The Colosseum and of course The Vatican. Amazing place, would love to go back and do at a much more leisurely pace though.🙂

After our cruise we stayed in Rome for three days Honestly unless you are young and energetic like my teenagers either don’t try to do too much in one day or don’t go in the hottest part of the year We did a tour of the colosseum palantine hill and Roman forum all in one. Three hours in the direct heat and it was a nonstop tour (no rests) our tour guide was great but very taxing bc of the heat Same with the. Vatican Sistine Chapel and the basilica. Most rooms no ac and you are shoulder to shoulder with three hundred people

Rome is stunning and so much to see a do. If possible allow two days or more here. We did four days and there's still more to see on another trip. Stay in the center and you can walk to most of the attractions. If going to the Vatican go first thing in the morning and the Trevi fountain is quieter (and more beautiful with the lights) at night. Advance tickets for the Colosseum are best and the bus tour is an excellent way of seeing all the major site.

Big, hot and lots of tourists. It is so far from the port that it leaves little time to see so much.

We visited Rome after we returned from the cruise. We took the "fast train" with a few other passenger friends we had made, to the Termini Station, where our hotel was about a block away. We purchased a Hop On Hop Off bus ticket directly from our hotel and jumped on one right away. We were able to make it to the Colosseum (bought a private tour at the site and got right in), the The Forum, Circus Maximus, Saint Peter's Square/Vatican (did not get to go inside as it was a Sunday and the museums etc were closed), Castel Saint' Angelo, Trevi Fountain (took a taxi here at night), eat at a local diner and gelato spot, and have time to shop a bit too. One day is not enough time for Rome, but it's all we had so we made the most of it.

Can't wait to get back to Rome. The train station at the port has no signage on how to get to the ship. DON"T try to walk, we made this mistake, there is no clear path to the ship, take a cab
