We walked from the shuttle bus to the train station which is about a 15 minute walk and took the fast train to Rome which takes 40 minutes. We booked beforehand and it cost €50 return for 2 adults 2 children compared to £270 for a RCCL excursion. It was so easy. We walked to the Colosseum( which was very, very busy) and to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain/ Piazza Navona/ Pantheon. We went to the Vatican and the Pantheon last year so didn't go that far. Overall Rome was great but very hot even in May.

Ventured out to see the catacombs on our own. My only disappointment was how far Rome was from the port.

The port itself, was just the gateway to Rome for me. And Rome is Rome...it doesn't need any explanation.
